Make a Microloan for 8-yr old Evan's Health!

This loan has been partially forgiven and partially repaid

First Posted: August 3, 2010

Name: Evan

Age: 8 years old

Location: Ohio, USA

Diagnosis: Autism, seizure disorder, immune deficiency

Loan Sought: $1,000

Loan Needed For: Follow-up appointments with DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor. (Monthly in-office appointments are approximately $280/hour; phone consults are approximately $100.)

Repayment Terms: No payment for 6 months after loan is fulfilled, then 12 monthly payments ($83.33/month).

Other Notes: Evans's mom, Andrea, writes, "Evan is an adorable, outgoing little guy who loves water play, horseback riding, playing outside, swimming and music. He is 8 years old. He is very affectionate and gives hugs and kisses when his tummy doesn't hurt. He enjoys going to school too as he enjoys learning. He is unable to talk due to his apraxia, but he uses his PECS and communication device very well. He is very bright and resourceful and is full of potential!

I would like to receive a loan for Evan to help us bridge financially the next 2-3 months of his continuing biomedical care. My husband has been unemployed since November 2009 and is starting his new position in September 2010. Until we get back on track financially, we will have a hard time paying for our doctor appointments. He is receiving IV IG treatments and needs frequent doctors visits to monitor his progress, and make adjustments to his care as he continues to thrive and improve with the IV IG. The loan will help us through this final stretch of economic hardship and allow us not to interrupt Evan's biomedical care.

Thanks to 7 months of IV IG, his seizures have been almost fully controlled when before he had as many as a 100 a day. His behaviors are minimal now and he can function very well in his environment and community. What a dramatic positive change the IV IG has been for him when nothing else worked!"

Make a Microloan for 5-yr old Zachary's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: September 28, 2009

Name: Zachary

Age: 5 years old

Location: Michigan, USA

Diagnosis: PDD-NOS

Loan Sought: $779

Loan Needed For: Tests from Great Plains (heavy metal $135, organic acid test w/yeast $340, amino acids $219, and glutathione $85).
On 10/8/09 this loan request was reduced from $997 to $827 because the family found a compounding pharmacy where they can get B-12 injections covered by insurance, and because the family received a donation of cod liver oil from Nordic Naturals. On 2/2/10 this loan request was reduced from $827 to $779 because an online friend is paying for Zach's probiotics. These were items that were previously part of the loan request.

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($64.92/month).

Other Notes: Zachary's mom, Jackie, writes: "Zachary is 5 years old. He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS and DBD-NOS at age 3. He is currently GFCFEF [gluten-free, casein-free, egg-free], and is supposed to be on Calcium, CoEnzyme, Probiotics, B12, Glutathione, Multi's, digestive enzymes, and fish oil. We saw incredible changes over the past year of being treated biomedically. As of 3 months ago when he was receiving everything he was supposed to, he was 70% recovered. Unfortunately, he has regressed since coming off the supplements (mostly the B12 and Glutathione).

We need this loan because without it we are unable to get him what he needs. We have other children (all with special needs), and unfortunately many of their medical expenses/doctor appts/testing is not covered by insurance.

Zachary is an incredible boy. He is extremely smart and friendly and is loved by many. He has been through a rough time, as he's been sick since birth. He suffers from many things that go along with Autism (Candida, Acid Reflux, allergies, asthma, eczema, possible Celiac (awaiting scheduled surgery), weakened immune system, etc. and has spent most of his life in doctors offices/hospitals. He is a very sweet boy who just wants to be happy and play, and is an incredible athlete."

Make a Microloan for 10-yr old Arthur's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: August 11, 2009

Name: Arthur

Age: 10 years old

Location: Vermont, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $520

Loan Needed For: Mindlinx probiotic (12 month supply, $300); HMD chelator ($178); and Source Naturals Attentive Child (6 month supply, $42).

Repayment Terms: One lump sum in March 2010.

Other Notes: Arthur's mom, Jenn, writes: "Arthur has come so far in the last year since starting biomedical treatments. He's off all pharmaceuticals except the ADHD medicine, which we want to try to eliminate this year. He's so much more social and outgoing since starting biomedical. He still loves dinosaurs but he's also started playing video games, and sleeping in (oh no here comes a preteen LOL)!!!

I would use this loan to buy a 12 month supply of the probiotic Mindlinx that his DAN! [Defeat Autism Now] doctor recommends, and a supply of the chelator he also recommends to start heavy metal detox. We would also like to try using the Source Natural vitamin formula for ADHD and see if we could get him off the final pharmaceutical medicine he's on."

Special Notes: Arthur received a Lend4Health loan last year (August 2008) when he had just started biomedical treatments. That loan was paid off in full, and the repayment was made early. Click HERE to read about Arthur's first loan request.

Make a Microloan for Brothers Salamander & Potatey's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted: August 8, 2009

Name: Salamander & Potatey

Age: 11 years old (Salamander); 6 years old (Potatey)

Location: Massachusetts, USA

Diagnosis: Asperger's, Non Verbal Learning Disorder (NLD), ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), anxiety, bipolar tendencies, Celiac Disease, multiple food allergies, meta/mito dysfunction (Salamander). Celiac, multiple food allergies, meta dysfunction, "near miss" (Potatey).

Loan Sought: $550

Loan Needed For: Updated Metabolic Analysis Profile (MAP), through Dr. Amy Yasko, for each boy. Each MAP costs $275.

Repayment Terms: 11 months ($50/month), starting 6 months from date of loan disbursement

Other Notes: Salamander & Potatey's mom, Petra, writes, "My two guys are incredible. They have already overcome so many challenges and difficulties. Salamander is absolutely amazing and he's so so so very brave. He was diagnosed just shy of his 6th birthday with Asperger's Syndrome, Non Verbal Learning Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. Salamander's *secondary* diagnoses are ADHD, anxiety disorder, and bipolar tendencies. And then of course there is the usual stew of medical issues: Celiac's Disease, multiple food intolerances, immune system dysfunction, gut dysbiosys, meta/mito dysfunction, etc. I started biomedical treatments with Salamander when he was about 6.5 years old, moving over to Dr. Amy Yasko's protocol when he was about 8.5 years old. He's 11.5 years old now and doing phenomenal (quite a bit of his journey can be found on my blog) - he has progressed from an ATEC score of 101 to an ATEC of 8 (!!).

Potatey, Salamander's younger brother, is completely neurotypical, but with a lot of the same health problems as his big brother. I really think that the reason Potatey remained neurotypical is that I started biomedical treatments with him when he was about 11 months old (plus he was dairy free pretty much from infancy due to a severe dairy allergy). Potatey too has greatly benefited from Dr. Yasko's protocol.

I love the Lend4Health concept, I adore Tori and the entire community that she has been able to pull together. Every single loan request that has gone up has tugged at my heart strings and if I were independently wealthy, I would have funded every loan request. I never thought I would find myself on the 'requesting end'. A job loss and a series of difficult personal circumstances, however, have left me in quite a pickle.

I will need to make changes to the boys' current supplement protocols (to try to taper down where I can to save on expenses), but I need updated test results for the boys to be able to make those decisions. I have been able to scrape together enough money for an updated UTEE for Salamander, I have asked family for help in paying for an updated UTEE for Potatey. And I am turning to you all for help to pay for updated MAPs. Thank you so much in advance. My boys and I will be ever so grateful."

August 8, 2009: Loan of $550 sent to Petra via check in the mail. The loan amount is $550. It is scheduled to be repaid over 11 months, starting on February 1, 2010.

September 17, 2009: Update from Petra: "I got Salamander's MAP [metabolic analysis profile] results back. (This test was paid for by the loan thru the Lend4Health gang.) Overall things are looking good. Neurotransmitter metabolites much more balanced. Cellular energy and Mitochondrial metabolites are looking much better too. All the B12 I'm pumpin' into this kid is starting to do its thing. Not so good news? Malabsorption and dysbiosis markers are really out of whack again. I had to *back off* from my gut bug program a bit this summer due to Salamander's constipation issues. I need to redo a comprehensive stool analysis to see what's growing. But I am very, very happy about the improvements in neurotransmitter metabolites and the cellular energy/mitochondrial metabolites."

He gets frustrated due to his speech problem. He is extremely handsome and he loves the outdoors. I have been paying for Kyle's expenses out of pocket, but it's getting too expensive all at once."

Additional Notes: One of Sonja's references, Regina, mentioned that Sonja "put her life on the line" and left her home in Michigan to go to Georgia to help take care of Kyle. Make a Microloan for 6-yr old Jake's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted: May 28, 2009

Name: Jake

Age: 6 years old

Location: Virginia, USA

Diagnosis: Asperger Syndrome

Loan Sought: $570 [reduced from original amount of $720 because Tim Terry from Nordic Naturals is donating the 5-month supply of arctic-d cod liver oil to this family.]

Loan Needed For: A delayed sensitivity food allergy panel test ($300) and a supply of Jake's supplements: Nordic Naturals Arctic-d cod liver oil ($149.70); HMF Capsules probiotic ($103.50); UNDA passiflora plex- hyperactivity, promotes healthy sleep, calming ($31.20); UNDA 2 heavy metal detox ($18.30); UNDA 48 heavy metal detox ($18.30); UNDA 258 heavy metal detox ($18.30); AMD Heavy Metal Detox ($22.70); Cat’s Claw Tincture to bring down Hep B titer ($15.99); Gammadyn Cu-Au-Ag- to bring down Hep B titer ($21.32); and Gammadyn Zn- zinc supplement ($21.50)

Repayment Terms: 18 months ($31.67/month, figured after donation from Nordic Naturals)

Other Notes: Jake's mom, Ann, writes, "Jake is the funniest kid I have ever met. He has the greatest sense of humor and loves to tell jokes. He loves to draw, paint, play with playdoh, basically anything art related. He is the most loving, affectionate kid I have ever come across. He is going to Kindergarten next year and we are all really looking forward to that, as well as nervous. Jake was diagnosed with Aspergers after a series of Rabies vaccinations (rabid bat in his room). Fast forward a few years and he is also diagnosed with severe ADHD. In the past several months we have been seeing a homeopathic doctor and have been trying many supplements and natural methods instead of traditional medicines. We are also detoxing his gut, liver/kidney, and heavy metals and are seeing improvements with that. These supplements are killing us financially as we have many other doctor bills and general bills. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps us out!" Ann learned about Lend4Health from an article in Age of Autism.

Special Note from Lend4Health Founder Tori: I learned from one of the family's references, John H., that Jake and his mom, Ann, live with Ann's mom. Ann and her mom have each done a lot of research on autism, and Jake's grandma is writing a book about his story. Written from the perspective of a grandmother, the book's working title is "Unlocking Jake."

Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Tristen's Health!

This loan has been fully repaid!

Tristen with his brother. Tristen is on the bottom.

First Posted On: June 16, 2009

Name: Tristen

Age: 11 years old

Location: Wisconsin, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $700

Loan Needed For: Initial visit to Dr. Sabnis at Allergy Associates of LaCrosse. Dr. Sabnis specializes in treating Autism patients.

Repayment Terms: 18 months ($38.89/month).

Other Notes: Tristen's mom, Meadow, writes: "Tristen is the light in our lives. He cracks us up every day! Since starting BioMed treatments, his life-long battles with constant fever and illness have ceased. Every day we see our little boy emerging that much closer to reaching his full potential. He talks to no end about Poke'mon, much welcomed, however, after years and years of Thomas the Train. After treating for yeast and strep in his gut, we still see the "allergy shiners" and behavior reactions to foods. The food allergy blood work done at Great Plains Labs showed somewhat of a sensitivity to ALL foods...we don't know where to start (after GFCFSF). This testing with Dr. Sabnis should clear up our food allergy questions that were not made clear after testing with Great Plains Laboratory.

My husband lost his job, and I am a kindergarten aide for a boy with Autism. We barely make enough money from my checks to buy the special food and vitamins etc, let alone another huge doctor bill. We pay for DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] out of pocket and travel three hours to get there. If we could eat Ramen noodles every day to get him the treatment we would....we just don't have that option because my other son and I also experience the same sensitivities to food as Tristen.

I want Tristen to be an example for our backwards town. I want them to look at him and see the gains we have made from this program. We STILL, after all the media and press, get the rolled eyes and the smirks. I want to be the first person to voice this from the rooftops so that people in our part of the U.S. will WAKE UP and get their children the help they deserve!"

Special Note: Tristen's mom tells the story of how she learned about Lend4Health: "I was crying after getting off the phone with the Medical Assistance Advocate from our HMO. She said they would not cover Tristen's allergy testing. I didn't know how I was going to pay the electric bill, let alone this test we had scheduled. I checked my email and there was a newsletter from Generation Rescue. The link to Lend4Health was at the bottom of the page."

July 5, 2009: Tristen's loan has been fully funded! Woo hoo! The full amount of the loan is $215. Repayments will be over 6 months, starting August 15, 2009. Repayment amounts will be $35.83/month.

July 7, 2009: Note from Meadow: "Thanks so much to everyone for their generosity.
Tough times are all around us and it is truly humbling to see a community come together and despite all the economic downfalls find it in their hearts to help someone else in need. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts....you will never be forgotten!"

August 14, 2009: 1st repayment of $35.83 received, 1 day early.

August 17, 2009: Update from Meadow: "I wanted to send a quick update, so all you wonderful, kind-hearted people would know how Tristen's allergy testing went. We found out Tristen has some pretty severe seasonal allergies! Not just wheezing or hives but also big, huge painful welts! Having this treated will really help his immune system get stronger so he can fight viruses and such. He also isn't 'alergic' to wheat and dairy, but is eggs, which is a tough one to figure out on your own cuz it's in so many baked goods. Since we know he isn't 'allergic' to wheat and dairy, we can pinpoint it as a digestion problem and once his gut has healed from the lifetime of strep, we should be able to reintroduce those foods with digestive enzymes without too much trouble! Yea, for real pizza and ice cream! This is a great step towards normalcy. The allergy specialist we were able to see hopes that with treatment, Tristen's allergies will not effect him in three to five years. As we continue on this Biomedical journey, I am amazed each day as his vocabulary and comprehension grows. We are very blessed.....and we owe part of this progress to you. Thank you!

August 19, 2009: 2nd repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 3rd repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 6th repayment of $35.85 received, early!

Make a Microloan for Karen & Megan's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

Karen is the youngest, with glasses. Megan is behind her in the pink shirt. They are at the park with their sister, Logan, in the jacket, and their brother, Kevin.

First Posted On: May 15, 2009

Name: Karen & Megan

Age: 8 years old (Karen) and 15 years old (Megan)

Location: Kansas, USA

Diagnosis: Karen: Suspected lyme disease, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), and uveitis; Megan: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), suspected lyme disease, severe dyslexia, and central auditory processing disorder (CAPD).

Loan Sought: $520

Loan Needed For: IGeneX basic lymes disease panel for each child. The test is $260 each, so $520 for both.

Repayment Terms: One lump-sum repayment by February 28, 2010.

Other Notes: Karen and Megan are sisters from a family of five children, each of whom have various health issues. The parents believe that the children are suffering from Lyme Disease, and that some of the children may have Lyme-induced autism. They would like to conduct a test for Lymes that is not covered by insurance but that is considered to be a definitive test for Lymes. By having the results from this test, the family will be better equipped with information they need to pursue treatments, if needed. The family originally requested a loan to test four of the children, but in the hopes that the loan will be fulfilled more quickly if it is a lesser amount, they have decided to get Megan and Karen tested first.

Their mom, Shelly, writes, "Karen is 8, and very smart. She is apparently neurotypical. She was diagnosed with JRA [juvenile rheumatoid arthritis] and uveitis at age 6. She has been on homeopathic remedies from the naturopath, probiotics, antivirals, acupuncture, chinese herbs, supplements, curcumin, allergy shots, allergy drops from the naturopath, rebirthing for birth trauma resolution, proteolytic enzymes, porters milk cure diet, IGG food allergy testing, a diet of 8 foods ramping up to 30, and is possible celiac per a gastro specialist. She was negative on her lymes test from the hospital but we think she has lymes, and this test would prove it and allow me to pursue treatment for lymes and not get into a hassle with her rheumatologist or opthomologist. She is 2 1/2 years inflammation-free and off all steroids as well as NOT on Nsaids or immunosuppressors like 99% of all of the other kids with uveitis.

Megan is 15 years old with Aspergers, central auditory processing disorder, dyslexia, insomnia, headaches, and fatigue. She tested positive for mercury and lead on her hair test. She has been made sick by almost every biomedical treatment we have tried, and her adrenal cortisol test revealed that she makes almost no cortisol (only one time a day, in the evening, it reaches a 3, but the rest of the day, nothing). Attempts we've made with chelators have failed because of the adrenal problem. She has adverse reactions to the sauna [used for therapeutic purposes]. She has fevers, chills, weakness, and brain symptoms. She has been going to a naturopath for a year, and we still have not been able to see any improvement because so far everything we try, fails. Megan is a beautiful girl but has a difficult time keeping her energy up and becomes weak often. She loves playing video games. We would like to get the IGeneX test for lymes induced autism. Her older brother regressed between ages 10 and 14 into autism, and we fear she will continue a downward spiral to regression also if we do not do something."

Special Note: Shelly also writes, "Their 20 year old older brother Shawn made a full recovery from doing Andy Cutler chelation for 8 months; three months into treatment he was showing amazing gains. During biomedical treatment his OCD fear of bathing and leaving the house went away, as did his insomnia, headaches, and nausea. His eye contact and socialization went through the roof, he learned basic life skills, and he was then able to learn to drive and attend college and held down a job. He discontinued treatment early after 8 months, and two and a half years later is experiencing regression but he is no longer living at home. He is no longer well enough to attend college or have a job. We would like for him to move home so that we could take care of him."

Karen S: $50 ["So glad to see them getting Igenex testing, know that even Igenex can have false negatives, but is a much better test than standard labs. If they can get the kids to a LLMD (lyme literate doc), to be assessed for co-infections as well, that would be a good goal after the initial testing. Best of luck to the family, lyme is a very rough road."]

June 13, 2009: This loan has been fully funded!

June 14, 2009: Promissory note sent to Shelly for signature.

June 19, 2009: Signed promissory note received.

June 19, 2009: Loan of $520 sent to Shelly via PayPal. This loan will be due in one lump sum by February 28, 2010.

June 20, 2009: PayPal was charging a fee for the loan because Shelly has a business account, so she denied the payment, and I sent the loan to her via check in Priority Mail.

September 17, 2009: Update from Shelly: "My family was very skeptical that our children could have lyme disease induced autism. Lend4Health helped me get a loan to get two of our daughters tested. When both daughters' lyme disease tests turned up positive, I got the blessing to begin treating them for lyme. Since beginning treatment for lyme, our entire life has changed for the better, we have a new outlook, and understanding of the symptoms and the causes, and a new road ahead towards recovery. Thank You Lend4Health!"

December 22, 2009: Update from Shelly: "Karen and Megan tested positive for Lyme Disease through testing done with a loan from Lend4Health. We did some initial treatment for Lyme since then, but found that we don't have enough die-off "moppers" and supportive herbs to support our detox pathways enough to begin killing off lyme as fast as we had hoped. We are now waiting until we get our tax refund to pay off our Lend4Health loan, then try to get another loan next year to pay for herbs and supplements for the treatment of the Lyme Disease. The girls' Naturopath moved, and the new Naturopath we feel, doesn't really know how or want to help them with Lyme Disease. We are hoping to attend the Lyme Induced Autism conference in California in April 2010 as a family so that the children can get a feel for all of the treatment options and take an active role in their health. We are so thankful to Lend4Health and all of our lenders for taking away the question of "Is it Lyme Disease or not?" That was a huge thing to be able to accept the diagnosis and then to make a plan together for how do deal with Lyme Disease. We also plan to find a Lyme Disease Specialist for Karen who is experienced in dealing with children with Lyme and uveitis but also familiar with herbs and biomed and form a specific treatment plan for her in 2010. We would like to thank all of our Lend4Health Lenders for making the girls' Lyme Diagnosis possible by lending us the money for their IGENEX tests. Merry Christmas Everyone!!"

Make a Microloan for 7-yr old Levi's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

levi_2

First Posted On: March 28, 2009

Name: Levi

Age: 7 years old

Location: Vermont, USA

Diagnosis: PANDAS/PDD

Loan Sought: $900 [amount is approximate; it is expected it will be reduced after family can confirm costs of tests with doctor on Monday, March 30]
Final loan amount: $758

Loan Needed For: (1) 3 months of B-12; (2) stool test; (3) organic acid test (urine)

Repayment Terms: One lump sum, 12 months after loan fulfilled.

Other Notes: Levi's mom, Christel, writes, "Levi had a diagnosis of severe autism at 22 months old, and has since been doing biomedical treatments. He moved his diagnosis to PDD-NOS [Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified] and was only one point from being ON or OFF the autism spectrum at all (as of October 2007) thanks to biomedical. However, he has PANDAS, which throws him off into a backslide quickly. We are in a tailspin right now with many changes of moving to a new state, new school, new church, new friends, new house, etc, and we are watching his immune system bottom out with the stress. We are having to let some supplements go due to finances.

We are needing to run a comprehensive stool test and organic acid test on our son with our DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor and do not have the money for it, as well as order his B12 that he has run out of. He is in the middle of some sort of regression after moving and stress at home, and we are needing to get to the biomedical source of it all...and get him back! He has been doing so well for so long and it's so hard to lose him all over again! I have helped the autism community for years and find it very humbling to ask for help from them in return in our time of need. I just can't stand to see him so helpless all over again. Thank You." Levi's DAN! doctors are Jeremy Baptist and Jeffrey Wulfman.

Special Note from Lend4Health founder, Tori: Christel is a very active and extremely helpful participant on several online autism-related groups, including the GFCFKids Yahoo group. It was based on my participation on this group that I founded Lend4Health in June 2008.

April 20, 2010: Message for lenders from Christel:
Levi is doing well and making great progress holding gains and making bigger jumps in the last month. His language has increased to telling detailed stories, talking on the phone, more independence in showering on his own and picking out his clothes etc.

FAMILY UPDATE, In Jan our family was forced from the home we were trying to buy for the last year through short sale/foreclosure, as it flooded with sewer water and the owner disclosed he had no home insurance on the place, leaving the house condemned and unsellable. When we moved out we found the WHOLE house was filled with black mold and it was a blessing that we didn't buy it. We have since been in a hotel looking for a new place to live (praise God WE had renters insurance) and are planning to close on a place in mid May. Terribly the last year has been a very hard one on us between the owner taking off with a bunch of our money and us fighting to get things back as he is now filing for bankruptcy making it more complicated to get back. The process of being homeless as well has strapped us more, leaving us temporarily unable to pay back our loan until we get settled and do our tax return and get our first time home buyer credit. We are sorry we have found ourselves in this situation, tying up others' monies, but have no other way around it right now. But you are first on our list to pay off as we get settled and this money finds its way back to us.

Please pray with us as we transition that Levi does well. He is excited about his new school and his health has improved GREATLY since we have left the moldy house. Thank you everyone for making it possible for us to get emergency meds, as they were so desperately needed and for having a bit more patience with us while we try and get life settled...Christel

Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Geoffrey's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: March 10, 2009

Name: Geoffrey

Age: 11 years old

Location: Scotland, United Kingdom

Diagnosis: Autism (low-functioning)

Loan Sought: $800 [~585 UK pounds]

Loan Needed For: One year's worth of probiotics (48.75 UK pounds/bottle x 12 months)

Repayment Terms: One lump sum in April 2010

Other Notes: Geoffrey has had low-functioning autism since the age of 2 and was diagnosed at the age of 3. (Click HERE for a very detailed history.) His family has been doing biomedical treatments since then (for the past 8 years) and has "done everything we can afford," including the gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet, sugar-free/MSG-free diet, supplements, probiotics, enzymes, and several consults with doctors. They have an HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen treatment) chamber at their home (photo HERE). They have not tried chelation (heavy metals removal) yet because "he is not healthy enough" to start. The family would like to have the assistance of a gastroenterologist who specializes in autistic children, such as the Thoughtful House in Texas, but the cost to travel there plus continue and maintain treatment is prohibitive, and similar resources are not available in the UK. Geoffrey's family is interested in trying stem cell therapy and have heard other families have had good results with this. A quote from Germany for stem cell therapy was $30,000 (USD).

Geoffrey's family is planning to establish a charity in the UK that would help fund biomedical and stem cell treatments for families of children with autism. The cost required to establish such an organization would take away from the family's ability to purchase needed items for Geoffrey. This Lend4Health loan for a year's supply of Geoffrey's probiotics is an equivalent cost to that which it will cost for the family to establish their charity. As such, this loan will "free up" the funds needed to start their charity.

Geoffrey's dad, Angus, recently started a blog to track Geoffrey's story. The blog also has a "Donate" button for anybody interested in helping the family pursue further treatments for Geoffrey. Click HERE for a link to their blog.

Special Note: Geoffrey is one of the "MMR 10" Access to Justice children in the UK.

Make a Microloan for 4-yr old Alec's Health!

This loan has been paid back in full!

Alec enjoying some GFCF [gluten-free, casein-free] cake at his sister's birthday.

First Posted On: February 15, 2009

Name: Alec S.

Age: 4 years old

Diagnosis: Autism, mild

Loan Sought: $500 [reduced from original amnt. of $871]

Loan Needed For: A variety of needs: (1) Follow-up appointment with Dr. Margot Weinberg in Pittsford, NY (an Integrative Pediatrician who has some DAN! training): $100; (2) Comprehensive Diagnostic Stool Analysis test: $125; (3) April DAN! conference registration ($65/day rate x 3 days): $195; (4) Bulk GFCF food order on Amazon.com: $60 -- organic Tinkyada pasta & GFCF animal cookies (used for therapy sessions as ABA reward!); and (5) a supplement we'd like to add: CoQ10, $20.

Repayment Terms: 18 months (~ $27.78/month)

Other Notes: Alec's mom, Christina, writes, "Alec was diagnosed with Autism in September 2007, before turning 3 years old. Right after we received his diagnosis, Jenny McCarthy was on Oprah, and that sparked my curiosity about what I could do to unlock my son from his "fog." From that point, I have been on a quest to recover him. Switching him to a GFCF [gluten-free casein-free] diet saved his digestive system, and lifted the brain fog/opiate effect. Family, friends, and therapists all saw the drastic changes in him, within weeks. With the help of some "mentor moms," I started this diet and then moved on to supplements. Cod Liver Oil (CLO) gave Alec his motor skill. A year of therapy could not do what CLO did in less than a week! As we have added other supplements, we have seen more improvement! We are full-time-working parents, and are really stretching it with the budget. We have had to slow down with many of his supplements, and the special diet food has become harder to afford. Most of all, there is testing that I really would like to see run on him to uncover what his underlying issues are. A testament to Alec's recovery can best be summed up with this: when his little sister Dayna was born, he didn't even know she was in the house. We started biomedical interventions when she was 5 months old. Today, Dayna has brought out the best in Alec, and it's a joy to see them play together."

Special Note: Christina is the Founder and Chair of DANIA (Dietary and Natural Interventions for Autism). She says, "My biomedical journey with Alec inspired me to form a local support group (DANIA) in the Central New York area. There are many parents using biomedical interventions, but no one was getting together for support. It started up in July 2008, and with the help of some dedicated volunteers, has become a great source of information and support. We meet on a bi-weekly basis and often have guest speakers from the community. It feels so good to spread the knowledge!" Christina also blogs about her experiences on "Our Healing Journey of Autism Spectrum." [read it HERE]

March 13, 2009: Alec's loan has been fully funded! The total Lend4Health loan amount is $400.25 (an additional $100 was received as a gift outside of Lend4Health). The monthly payments over 18 months will be ~$22.23/month.

March 14, 2009: Note from Christina:
I want to extend our family's deepest gratitude for how you all came together to help Alec! We are going through a rough financial time now, yet I managed to raise the funds necessary to attend the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) conference next month in Atlanta, and this loan helped to complete my effort! I am excited to go and expand on my knowledge, to help Alec and other kids like him.

Thanks again for providing the ability to continue supplements, testing, and doctor guidance that we otherwise would have to put on our already over-extended credit cards...

Sincerely,
Christina and family
