Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Ezekiel (#2)!

This loan is past-due.

First Posted: April 20, 2010

Name: Ezekiel

Age: 11 years old

Location: Texas, USA

Diagnosis: Autism, Epilepsy

Loan Sought: $500

Loan Needed For: Travel costs to DAN! doctor (Dr. Rao) appointment on April 30, 2010 (gas for 300-mile trip @ $110; 1 night hotel @ $65; special diet food cost $60; cost to hire replacement for husband's work for 2 days @ $240). This loan also will cover 3 months of supplements recommended by Dr. Rao.

Repayment Terms: 6 monthly repayments ($83.33/month)

Other Notes: Ezekiel's mom, Rebekah, writes, "Ezekiel is a true soldier. He was diagnosed with Asberger/ADHD at age 4 1/2, autism at age 5 1/2. At 5 yrs old he spoke in jumbled words, not coherent. He ran in circles, holding a stick, 6 hrs a day. I could not hold him, he did not respond to my voice; noises terrified him. I was told to institutionalize him. We started the [GFCF] diet, and lowered some lead levels, and his speech came back organized, he gained eye contact and play skills. At age 7 1/2 he started having grand mal seizures. They were fully controlled only 6 months ago. He has lost a lot in development, but we have a very intensive therapy program that is bringing him up to age level developmentally. He has always loved horses, and horse therapy has always been a part of his life. He loves his Border Collie and pocket beagle, and takes care of them well. He plays games with his 2 siblings. He is in a boy scout group. He reads very well, and loves learning about animals. He tells jokes and stories about when he was younger, and describes his feelings. He plays basketball with his dad. He is learning to play piano. He swims. He has eye contact. I feel like crying. It has been such a long journey. After 3 years of serious seizures, it is a miracle that he is here with us. I want to encourage other parents to never give up...to always hope, and give it all you have, it is so worth it. Everytime he smiles at me, talks to me, plays... it is all a miracle (and lots of hard, hard work.)

We have had a difficult time balancing paying for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) premium and copays for compounding medication (our son has seizures with any added ingredients), costing us $375 and $150-$200 a month, and keeping up with vitamin/supplement needs. We need to keep our BCBS because our son shows immune system and IgG dysregulation at times, and we are trying to catch him off enough to get the insurance to pay for IgG IV's. Also, BCBS is covering a lot of biomedical testing (ie., Great Plains).

We have treated our son with an antiviral/B-12 shot protocol over the last 3 years, with tremendous improvement. We've also treated with the gluten- casein- soy- free diet and allergy diet for 5 yrs, as well as vitamins/minerals and airborne allergies. The last 6 months though, we have serious yeast, constipation, and gut bacteria, as well as not sleeping, or waking every hour all night long, and increasing OCD and anxiety, aggression. We saw Dr. Rao 6 months ago, and did a telephone consult 3 months ago. Lab work is indicating that Ezekiel may have PANDAS, and low dose antibiotics have been lessening the OCD and anxiety. Also, Ezekiel has tested high lead/mercury in the past. His immune system is stronger now, and his seizures under good control. Our son is not responding to prescription antivirals and antifungals as well as he was. We want to discuss a natural approach to infection control, as well as immune strengthening. We also want to discuss the Usman protocol to heal the gut better; and starting a mild chelation.

Dr. Rao has already requested we put Ezekiel on Enhansa, Klaire labs probiotics, and SB as well as vitamin D drops when we had a telephone consult. We have not been able to afford beyond the prescription medications (antiviral and anti yeast), the Nu Thera, mineral, cod liver oil, and B-12 shots each month. Our son has recovered so well, despite the ongoing gut issues.

The last time we saw Dr. Rao, he saw Ezekiel smiling and interacting; he said "We have definitely turned a corner." This year the seizures have been controlled, and he gained 7 lbs and 1.5 inches. He is reading, riding a scooter, in boy scouts, conversing and joking, and playing board games. We are moving forward. Since we want to take some next big steps, it would be good if we could see Dr. Rao in person.

Our appointment is April 30th. We have been with Dr. Rao since Ezekiel was 7. He is very wise and careful, but always moves us forward. He attends the DAN conferences and knows the latest treatments for such issues as sleep, PANDAS, etc."

Make a Microloan for 10-yr old Arthur's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: August 11, 2009

Name: Arthur

Age: 10 years old

Location: Vermont, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $520

Loan Needed For: Mindlinx probiotic (12 month supply, $300); HMD chelator ($178); and Source Naturals Attentive Child (6 month supply, $42).

Repayment Terms: One lump sum in March 2010.

Other Notes: Arthur's mom, Jenn, writes: "Arthur has come so far in the last year since starting biomedical treatments. He's off all pharmaceuticals except the ADHD medicine, which we want to try to eliminate this year. He's so much more social and outgoing since starting biomedical. He still loves dinosaurs but he's also started playing video games, and sleeping in (oh no here comes a preteen LOL)!!!

I would use this loan to buy a 12 month supply of the probiotic Mindlinx that his DAN! [Defeat Autism Now] doctor recommends, and a supply of the chelator he also recommends to start heavy metal detox. We would also like to try using the Source Natural vitamin formula for ADHD and see if we could get him off the final pharmaceutical medicine he's on."

Special Notes: Arthur received a Lend4Health loan last year (August 2008) when he had just started biomedical treatments. That loan was paid off in full, and the repayment was made early. Click HERE to read about Arthur's first loan request.

Make a Microloan for Brothers Salamander & Potatey's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted: August 8, 2009

Name: Salamander & Potatey

Age: 11 years old (Salamander); 6 years old (Potatey)

Location: Massachusetts, USA

Diagnosis: Asperger's, Non Verbal Learning Disorder (NLD), ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), anxiety, bipolar tendencies, Celiac Disease, multiple food allergies, meta/mito dysfunction (Salamander). Celiac, multiple food allergies, meta dysfunction, "near miss" (Potatey).

Loan Sought: $550

Loan Needed For: Updated Metabolic Analysis Profile (MAP), through Dr. Amy Yasko, for each boy. Each MAP costs $275.

Repayment Terms: 11 months ($50/month), starting 6 months from date of loan disbursement

Other Notes: Salamander & Potatey's mom, Petra, writes, "My two guys are incredible. They have already overcome so many challenges and difficulties. Salamander is absolutely amazing and he's so so so very brave. He was diagnosed just shy of his 6th birthday with Asperger's Syndrome, Non Verbal Learning Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. Salamander's *secondary* diagnoses are ADHD, anxiety disorder, and bipolar tendencies. And then of course there is the usual stew of medical issues: Celiac's Disease, multiple food intolerances, immune system dysfunction, gut dysbiosys, meta/mito dysfunction, etc. I started biomedical treatments with Salamander when he was about 6.5 years old, moving over to Dr. Amy Yasko's protocol when he was about 8.5 years old. He's 11.5 years old now and doing phenomenal (quite a bit of his journey can be found on my blog) - he has progressed from an ATEC score of 101 to an ATEC of 8 (!!).

Potatey, Salamander's younger brother, is completely neurotypical, but with a lot of the same health problems as his big brother. I really think that the reason Potatey remained neurotypical is that I started biomedical treatments with him when he was about 11 months old (plus he was dairy free pretty much from infancy due to a severe dairy allergy). Potatey too has greatly benefited from Dr. Yasko's protocol.

I love the Lend4Health concept, I adore Tori and the entire community that she has been able to pull together. Every single loan request that has gone up has tugged at my heart strings and if I were independently wealthy, I would have funded every loan request. I never thought I would find myself on the 'requesting end'. A job loss and a series of difficult personal circumstances, however, have left me in quite a pickle.

I will need to make changes to the boys' current supplement protocols (to try to taper down where I can to save on expenses), but I need updated test results for the boys to be able to make those decisions. I have been able to scrape together enough money for an updated UTEE for Salamander, I have asked family for help in paying for an updated UTEE for Potatey. And I am turning to you all for help to pay for updated MAPs. Thank you so much in advance. My boys and I will be ever so grateful."

August 8, 2009: Loan of $550 sent to Petra via check in the mail. The loan amount is $550. It is scheduled to be repaid over 11 months, starting on February 1, 2010.

September 17, 2009: Update from Petra: "I got Salamander's MAP [metabolic analysis profile] results back. (This test was paid for by the loan thru the Lend4Health gang.) Overall things are looking good. Neurotransmitter metabolites much more balanced. Cellular energy and Mitochondrial metabolites are looking much better too. All the B12 I'm pumpin' into this kid is starting to do its thing. Not so good news? Malabsorption and dysbiosis markers are really out of whack again. I had to *back off* from my gut bug program a bit this summer due to Salamander's constipation issues. I need to redo a comprehensive stool analysis to see what's growing. But I am very, very happy about the improvements in neurotransmitter metabolites and the cellular energy/mitochondrial metabolites."

Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Tristen's Health!

This loan has been fully repaid!

Tristen with his brother. Tristen is on the bottom.

First Posted On: June 16, 2009

Name: Tristen

Age: 11 years old

Location: Wisconsin, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $700

Loan Needed For: Initial visit to Dr. Sabnis at Allergy Associates of LaCrosse. Dr. Sabnis specializes in treating Autism patients.

Repayment Terms: 18 months ($38.89/month).

Other Notes: Tristen's mom, Meadow, writes: "Tristen is the light in our lives. He cracks us up every day! Since starting BioMed treatments, his life-long battles with constant fever and illness have ceased. Every day we see our little boy emerging that much closer to reaching his full potential. He talks to no end about Poke'mon, much welcomed, however, after years and years of Thomas the Train. After treating for yeast and strep in his gut, we still see the "allergy shiners" and behavior reactions to foods. The food allergy blood work done at Great Plains Labs showed somewhat of a sensitivity to ALL foods...we don't know where to start (after GFCFSF). This testing with Dr. Sabnis should clear up our food allergy questions that were not made clear after testing with Great Plains Laboratory.

My husband lost his job, and I am a kindergarten aide for a boy with Autism. We barely make enough money from my checks to buy the special food and vitamins etc, let alone another huge doctor bill. We pay for DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] out of pocket and travel three hours to get there. If we could eat Ramen noodles every day to get him the treatment we would....we just don't have that option because my other son and I also experience the same sensitivities to food as Tristen.

I want Tristen to be an example for our backwards town. I want them to look at him and see the gains we have made from this program. We STILL, after all the media and press, get the rolled eyes and the smirks. I want to be the first person to voice this from the rooftops so that people in our part of the U.S. will WAKE UP and get their children the help they deserve!"

Special Note: Tristen's mom tells the story of how she learned about Lend4Health: "I was crying after getting off the phone with the Medical Assistance Advocate from our HMO. She said they would not cover Tristen's allergy testing. I didn't know how I was going to pay the electric bill, let alone this test we had scheduled. I checked my email and there was a newsletter from Generation Rescue. The link to Lend4Health was at the bottom of the page."

July 5, 2009: Tristen's loan has been fully funded! Woo hoo! The full amount of the loan is $215. Repayments will be over 6 months, starting August 15, 2009. Repayment amounts will be $35.83/month.

July 6, 2009: Loan of $215 sent to Meadow via PayPal.

July 7, 2009: Note from Meadow: "Thanks so much to everyone for their generosity.
Tough times are all around us and it is truly humbling to see a community come together and despite all the economic downfalls find it in their hearts to help someone else in need. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts....you will never be forgotten!"

August 14, 2009: 1st repayment of $35.83 received, 1 day early.

August 17, 2009: Update from Meadow: "I wanted to send a quick update, so all you wonderful, kind-hearted people would know how Tristen's allergy testing went. We found out Tristen has some pretty severe seasonal allergies! Not just wheezing or hives but also big, huge painful welts! Having this treated will really help his immune system get stronger so he can fight viruses and such. He also isn't 'alergic' to wheat and dairy, but is eggs, which is a tough one to figure out on your own cuz it's in so many baked goods. Since we know he isn't 'allergic' to wheat and dairy, we can pinpoint it as a digestion problem and once his gut has healed from the lifetime of strep, we should be able to reintroduce those foods with digestive enzymes without too much trouble! Yea, for real pizza and ice cream! This is a great step towards normalcy. The allergy specialist we were able to see hopes that with treatment, Tristen's allergies will not effect him in three to five years. As we continue on this Biomedical journey, I am amazed each day as his vocabulary and comprehension grows. We are very blessed.....and we owe part of this progress to you. Thank you!

August 19, 2009: 2nd repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 3rd repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 4th repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 5th repayment of $35.83 received, early!

August 19, 2009: 6th repayment of $35.85 received, early!

August 28, 2009: This loan has been repaid in full, ahead of time! This family is in good standing with Lend4Health, so is eligible to request a 2nd loan in the future, if they would like.

August 28, 2009: Triten's lenders have been repaid via PayPal.

Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Geoffrey's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: March 10, 2009

Name: Geoffrey

Age: 11 years old

Location: Scotland, United Kingdom

Diagnosis: Autism (low-functioning)

Loan Sought: $800 [~585 UK pounds]

Loan Needed For: One year's worth of probiotics (48.75 UK pounds/bottle x 12 months)

Repayment Terms: One lump sum in April 2010

Other Notes: Geoffrey has had low-functioning autism since the age of 2 and was diagnosed at the age of 3. (Click HERE for a very detailed history.) His family has been doing biomedical treatments since then (for the past 8 years) and has "done everything we can afford," including the gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet, sugar-free/MSG-free diet, supplements, probiotics, enzymes, and several consults with doctors. They have an HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen treatment) chamber at their home (photo HERE). They have not tried chelation (heavy metals removal) yet because "he is not healthy enough" to start. The family would like to have the assistance of a gastroenterologist who specializes in autistic children, such as the Thoughtful House in Texas, but the cost to travel there plus continue and maintain treatment is prohibitive, and similar resources are not available in the UK. Geoffrey's family is interested in trying stem cell therapy and have heard other families have had good results with this. A quote from Germany for stem cell therapy was $30,000 (USD).

Geoffrey's family is planning to establish a charity in the UK that would help fund biomedical and stem cell treatments for families of children with autism. The cost required to establish such an organization would take away from the family's ability to purchase needed items for Geoffrey. This Lend4Health loan for a year's supply of Geoffrey's probiotics is an equivalent cost to that which it will cost for the family to establish their charity. As such, this loan will "free up" the funds needed to start their charity.

Geoffrey's dad, Angus, recently started a blog to track Geoffrey's story. The blog also has a "Donate" button for anybody interested in helping the family pursue further treatments for Geoffrey. Click HERE for a link to their blog.

Special Note: Geoffrey is one of the "MMR 10" Access to Justice children in the UK.

Make a Microloan for 10-yr old Matthew's Health!

This loan is still being repaid.

First Posted On: February 18, 2009

Name: Matthew Paul G.

Age: 10 years old

Diagnosis: Severe Autism

Loan Sought: $288

Loan Needed For: SUPPLEMENTS: 2 bottles of Nordic Naturals children's arctic cod liver oil gels ($73, will last 6 months); 2 bottles of Nordic Naturals Omega 3-6-9 Junior Dietary Supplement ($62, will last 6 months); and 3 bottles of Nordic Naturals Omega-3 gummies ($56, will last 3 months). FOOD (for 1 month): Gluten-free casein-free (GFCF) brown rice bread ($30); GFCF cookies ($40); GFCF pretzels ($16); and GFCF hard candies ($11).

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($24/month)

Other Notes: Matthew's dad, Clint, writes, "Matthew started taking supplements 6 years ago, and he has been on a gluten-free diet for a long time. He has his good days and bad days. He brings you by the hand to get what he wants. Matthew likes to ride in the car, and swim in the summer time. He likes to watch Dragon Tales, Sesame Street, and Blues Clues." Matthew's family has applied for respite care to help take care of Matthew before and after school but there are no caregivers working in their area. Clint believes the low wages for respite care workers is part of this problem. Because of Matthew's size as a 10-year old, Clint (rather than his wife) has been staying home to help get Matthew on and off the bus. They also have a 3-year old that Clint watches during the day while his wife works. The family was receiving food stamps to help pay for Matthew's special GFCF foods, but they stopped receiving them recently. They saw a DAN! doctor (Stephanie Cave) in the past who started them on biomedical treatment, but due to the high cost of the appointments, the family is pursuing biomedical on their own now.

Make a Microloan for 10-yr old Michael's Health!

This loan has been partially repaid and partially forgiven.

First Posted On: December 22, 2008

Name: Michael Z.

Age: 10 years old

Diagnosis: Autism (severe), MR

Loan Sought: $500

Loan Needed For: Initial DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor appointment. The appointment will be with Jennifer Reid, N.D.

Repayment Terms: 18 months (~ $27.78/month)

Other Notes: Michael's mom, Mary, writes: "My son is non-verbal and severely affected my autism. He has not received the help he deserves because of my financial situation. My son's insurance does not cover any DAN! doctors or biomedical treatments. I would greatly appreciate any money that could go toward my son's recovery. I have been told to just put him in a home. My family doesn't believe in biomeidcal treatment, and I have no support to help my son. So this site has given me hope." Mary learned about Lend4Health from an online support group called OR Recovery. She filled out the loan request form the very same day.

Michael's Community of Lenders:

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

December 22, 2008: Michael's loan has been fully funded! Wow, that was quick! Thank you Jan, Renee, and Tim!

December 22, 2008: Note from Michael's mom, Mary: "I just want to take the time to thank you for lending money for Michael to begin the road to recovery through biomedical treatment. I appreciate this more than anyone will ever know. This went so quick, in less than 24 hours the money was loaned. I am so excited and feel so blessed that there are kind people who are willing to help my son. I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am. I promise to keep updates coming, and again thank you all so very much. I also want to thank Tori for starting this incredible organization. I am so glad I found this website."

December 23, 2008: Promissory note sent to Mary for signature.

December 26, 2008: Signed promissory note received.

December 30, 2008: $500 loan sent to Mary via PayPal. Loan repayments will begin on February 15, 2009.

December 30, 2008: Update from Mary: Michael's first DAN! appointment will be on January 16. She was very excited that she could get in that quickly!

January 9, 2009: Mary was having problems with PayPal, so she rejected the payment made to her on December 30, 2008, and a check was sent instead.

January 14, 2009: The check was deposited.

January 16, 2009: Michael had his first DAN! doctor appointment today, which was paid for with this Lend4Health loan. Here is the update I received from Mary that night: "I can not thank you enough for the help with the biomedical treatments. We had our first appointment today. Gosh it is spendy!!! But the doctor was Awesome, she was very down to earth, full of information and wanted to help my son. I am excited about this. She has a good record of recovery in Autism. I sure do have a lot of work to do though, between the vitamins, tests and the GF/CF diet I will be busy. Any results will be well worth it."

January 18, 2009: More details from Mary on Michael's first DAN! visit: "The initial visit cost $250.00 for just one hour with the doctor. We drove an hour and a half to see the doctor and spent about 2 hours there. After going over Michael's history, the doctor had many tests she would like to run. Unfortunately they are all expensive and apparently our insurance will cover none of the lab costs. So we were only able to have a blood draw that will test for about 50 different things and is important, but the most important test the doctor would like to run is called a Metabolic Analysis Profile. This test will cost $250.00 copay and $1500.00 for the lab workup, unbelievable! Besides the bad news of not being able to have this test done. Dr. Reid wrote a treatment plan for Michael which includes the GF/CF [gluten-free, casein-free] diet, a multi-vitamin called Spectrum Complete, and Michael will be getting methyl B12 shots a few times a week, he received his first shot at the appointment. We will have another appointment to discuss the blood work. Michael behaved the best he has ever behaved at this appointment. It is almost like he knew this wonderful lady was going to help him."

February 15, 2009: The February repayment installment is past due. Mary contacted me prior to the due date and explained that the payment will be late because they had a higher-than-usual electric bill this month. I will post again here when the payment is received.

February 20, 2009: First repayment installment of $27.78 received. This is the February payment, and it will be counted as "late" now instead of "past due."

March 19, 2009: The 2nd repayment (due March 15) is past due. I will post again here when the payment is received.

March 19, 2009: Mary requested that her payment date be changed to the end of the month instead of the middle of the month so that it wouldn't conflict with their electricity bill. In order to keep payments at the same time as other Lend4Health families, I have changed it to the beginning of the month. So this payment will now be due April 1 and subsequent repayments will be due on the 1st of the month. This means that I also have changed the March payment (see March 19 above) from "past due" to being not yet due.

April 9, 2009: The 2nd repayment (due April 1) is past-due.

April 15, 2009: Note from Mary: "Hi Tori. I want to apologize for the missing payment. Money is so tight here, it seems we are always on the verge of not being able to pay rent or some utility. I wanted to let you know I have been applying for loans to pay off this loan and I am also looking for a job. To update Michael's progress, well he hasn't made any. He had some more self stimulating behaviors and I asked his DAN! doctor about them and she said his brain is working more but to cut down on the dose he receives. She also told me until we get the metabolic test done she can only guess what to try with him. So we are not making any progress currently....still here praying and hoping."

April 24, 2009: $10 of the missed April loan repayment was made by Ethan & Alex's mom, Angie. She writes, "We are paying it forward from the generous Angel who helped us. I know its not much, but hopefully will help a little for now..." The remainder due on the April installment is $17.78.

April 25, 2009: The remaining $17.78 of the April loan repayment was made by Dana C, a lender, supporter, and volunteer on Lend4Health. The 3rd (April) loan repayment is now considered received. It will be counted as "late" instead of "past due" in the statistics.

May 4, 2009: The 3rd (May 1st) payment is past-due.

June 4, 2009: The 4th (June 1st) payment is past-due.

July 8, 2009: The 5th (July 1st) payment is past-due.

August 13, 2009: The 6th (August 1st) payment is past-due.

September 15, 2009: The 7th (September 1st) payment is past-due.

October 7, 2009: The 8th (October 1st) payment is past-due.

November 17, 2009: The 9th (November 1st) payment is past-due.

December 17, 2009: The 10th (December 1st) payment is past-due.

December 17, 2009: The 11th (January 1st, 2010) payment of $27.78 has been received, early. This payment was made by "Santa."

March 24, 2010: The 12th (February 1st) payment is past-due.

March 24, 2010: The 13th (March 1st) payment is past-due.

June 4, 2010: The 14th (April 1st) payment is past-due.

June 4, 2010: The 15th (May 1st) payment is past-due.

June 4, 2010: The 16th (June 1st) payment is past-due.

July 27, 2010: The 17th (July 1st) payment is past-due.

September 24, 2010: The 18th and final (August 1st) payment is past-due.

September 24, 2010: A letter was sent to Mary in the mail asking if she would like to reschedule her repayments, or if she needs to default.

January 1, 2011: A total of $83.34 was repaid on this loan. The remainder of $416.66 has been forgiven. Michael's lenders have received repayments based on the percentage of the total loan amount they contributed.

Make a Microloan for 10-yr old Ezekiel's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: September 27, 2008

Name: Ezekiel

Age: 10 years old

Diagnosis: Autism, epilepsy, unspecified brain lesion

Loan Sought: $328

Loan Needed For: Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance premium. (read notes below for more information)

Repayment Terms: 6 months (~ $54.66/month)

Other Notes: Ezekiel's mom, Rebekah, writes: "My son has autism, a brain lesion, seizures, and severe and multiple allergies. He has been on antivirals for 3 years and the gluten-free/casein-free (GFCF) diet for 5 years. He has also been on vitamins and supplements for 3 years. He regresses immediately if we miss 1 day of the antivirals. Last November (2007), Ezekiel's lab work showed an inherited low immunoglobulin -- a weakened immune system. He does have autism, but he is near recovery when the infections (viruses and candidas) are controlled. He was treated by Dr. Stewart in Austin, Texas, for 3 years, but now we are seeing Dr. Rao (a Defeat Autism Now! [DAN!] doctor 5 hours away in Dallas) because he is an immunologist and is perfect for our son's needs. Dr. Rao's nurse, seeing Ezekiel's lab work, said he is a good candidate for intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatments. We've been on hold with treatment, though, because Dr. Rao stopped accepting Medicaid. So we are trying to gather the $328 premium to get him started on Blue Cross Blue Shield, which Dr. Rao does accept. The IVIG treatment costs $2,000 for just one IV treatment; he could need one per week for a while. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas Insurance Pool will pay 100% of Dr. Rao's fees and the treatments. My son qualifies for this insurance because of the epilepsy. If I can mail the $328 premium in, Ezekiel could be covered in 1-2 weeks. We don't have the $328 because we are trying to keep him on his vitamins/supplements and special diet. Also, my husband is driving the mail on contract, and he is not getting reimbursed for gas at this time. I just feel an urgency to get this insurance. I already have a nurse saying he needs this treatment, and a letter from a doctor qualifiying him for Blue Cross Blue Shield. This $328 premium could get him started on treatments in just weeks after the funds are raised; and it has been a lot of research and waiting since we got that lab work last November. My son has been 60 pounds for 3 years ... even with all the vitamins/supplements. I know that the IV-IG treatments can heal my son, and possibly save him as he is just not thriving. Ezekiel is an awesome little 10 year old."

Note: This family also needs help paying for the gas for the 5-hour trip to Dr. Rao's (about $150). Rebekah and I decided not to include that amount in this Lend4Health request in the hopes of getting the loan fulfilled more quickly. But if anybody reading this has any access to gas coupons or free gas cards, please contact Tori by clicking HERE and writing "Gas Money for Ezekiel" in the subject line.

Loans Received as of 11:20am Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Heather (Brock's mom): $10
Ethan, Alex, and Megan: $5
Sheri: $40
Madison: $5
Diane: $68
Cathleen: $70
Noel: $15
Jan: $115 (Cinco de Linco loan) [note: Jan has donated $110 of this amount to Ezekiel's family on Jan. 2, 2009, to help them get back on track with their repayments. This essentially means that Jan's loan amount is now considered to be $5.]

Amount Loaned: $328
Amount Still Needed to Receive Loan: $0!!!

UPDATES - UPDATES - UPDATES

October 1, 2008: Promissory note sent to Ezekiel's mom for signature.

October 18, 2008: Signed promissory note received.

October 18, 2008: Loan of $328 sent to Ezekiel's mom via PayPal.

November 5, 2008: Ezekiel's mom reports that she has mailed in all the paperwork to Blue Cross Blue Shield and is just waiting to hear back now. "I am very excited!" she said.

November 8, 2008: Ezekiel's mom notes that her first repayment will be late this month. She is planning to make their first repayment on Nov. 21st. (note: I will update site statistics for on-time vs. late payments once this repayment is made.)

January 2, 2009: I spoke with Ezekiel's mom today. She explained that they have had a very rough past three months with illnesses and car accidents, and they have been unable to make the past three monthly repayment installments. She is planning to get caught up with the payments within a week or two. I have asked her lenders if they would be willing to extend her schedule from a 6-month repayment schedule to a 12-month schedule. This will cut her monthly payments in half. I have given the lenders one week from today to register any concerns with this. If no concerns are heard, we will change Ezekiel's loan repayment schedule to a 12-month schedule.

January 2, 2009: One of Ezekiel's lenders, Jan, would like to donate her loan to help Ezekiel's family be able to pay back the loan. Jan's loan was $115. Two months of Ezekiel's repayments are $109.34. So what I will do is delete the first two months' payments. I will reduce the amount loaned and disbursed in the statistics by $110. When the loan is fully repaid, Jan will receive $5 back instead of $115

January 24: 2009: Just a note that the 1st (January) repayment is considered past-due.

February 3, 2009: The 2nd (February) repayment is considered past-due.

March 5, 2009: The 3rd (March) repayment is considered past-due.

March 5, 2009: Because this loan is past due and no repayments have been made, I contacted Ezekiel's mom with an offer for a new repayment structure. The original loan amount she received was $328, but in January, one of their lenders (Jan) donated $110 of her loan. That brought the loan amount due down to $218. Although the original repayment terms were for 6 months, I offered to extend them to 12 months, which would bring the monthly amount due down to $18.16. I made this offer because I had not heard any negative feedback from the lenders on previous emails regarding this issue, and because it seems that a restructured, albeit extended repayment plan would be better than a defaulted loan. I told her I considered it "starting over" from scratch.

March 6, 2009: Ezekiel's mom, Rebekah, replied, "Yes, I'm sorry. I have been trying so hard to get the IvIg thing going for Ezekiel. The Dr. said yes, but the insurance is a big headache. We just found out he dropped from 50% on growth/height to 25% in 2 1/2 years. We knew he was not growing, but now we're seeing the allergist for all the food allergies, and a GI Dr and nutritionist; and gathering 10 years of medical records. I am just overwhelmed and exhausted. I will try to get a paypal to you over the weekend. Thank you for patience, and starting over."

April 9, 2009: The 4th (April) installment is considered past-due.

May 1, 2009: Rebekah sent an email saying that their financial situation has improved and she is going to mail the past-due amount via check.

May 4, 2009: The 5th (May) installment is considered past-due.

May 20, 2009: Repayment for $90 received. This covers the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th (January, February, March, April, and May) installments! The repayments on this loan are now caught up! :) Yay! :)

June 4, 2009: The 6th (June) installment is considered past-due.

June 24, 2009: The 6th (June) installment has been made. It is now considered "late" instead of "past-due."

June 24, 2009: The 7th (July 1st) installment was received, 1 week early! :)

July 19, 2009: The 8th (August 1st) installment was received, 13 days early!

September 1, 2009: The 9th (September 1st) installment was received, on time.

September 18, 2009: The 10th (October 1st) installment was received, early.

October 25, 2009: The 11th (November 1st) installment was received, early.

October 25, 2009: Update from Rebekah: "We're doing ok. Ezekiel's seizures have been controlled now, but he has GI symptoms still. The Houston enzymes are working well."

October 27, 2009: More on the update: "We never started IVIG because the lab work for IgG with subclasses and the immune function dysregulation came back normal (regulated) in the months waiting for the insurance. We are still very concerned about chronic Epstein Barr virus [for Ezekiel], we still don't have control of these titers after 4 yrs on antivirals. I also have chronic EBV. I am looking into all possible treatments for this, as the side effects of long term EBV are severe. Rebekah"

January 11, 2010: The 12th (December 1st) installment has been marked past-due. There is $19.02 remaining due on this loan.

March 5, 2010: A fellow Lend4Health mom, Angie, has made the final payment on this loan as a gift for Ezekiel's family, and to "pay forward" the generosity of others who had helped her repay her own loan.

March 5, 2010: This loan has now been repaid in full!

March 6, 2010: Original loan amounts have been repaid to the lenders via PayPal.

August 10, 2008: Promissory note sent to Marcellus' mom for signature.

August 11, 2008: Signed promissory note received from Marcellus' mom.

August 11, 2008: Loan for $500 sent to Marcellus' mom via PayPal.

September 9, 2008: I spoke with Marcellus' mom, Danna. Marcellus' DAN appointment was scheduled for September, but they were overbooked, so they got rescheduled for October 27. I offered to Danna that she defer her monthly repayments until after they go to the DAN (since that's what the loan was for). It just seemed strange to me to have to start repaying the loan before they even got to use it. She took me up on my offer, so the loan will now be paid back in 3 monthly installments starting October 30th instead of this month. I hope that's okay for all the lenders. And, by the way, Danna is sad about the rescheduling because she said Marcellus is getting worse and she is feeling "lost." So please send positive thoughts to Danna to help get her through till Oct. 27th.

October 28, 2008: I emailed with Danna today. Marcellus had his first DAN! appointment yesterday. Here's what she said about it: "It went very well. Of course the first thing they want to change is his diet. There are lots of tests that have to be taken but I definitely think there will be progress. I am very happy!!"

October 31, 2008: First repayment installment of $166.67 received. Repayment was a little less than 10 hours late, but I am going to count it as "on time" since it wasn't a full day late. [If anybody disagrees with this, please let me know. I want our statistics to be accurate and transparent.]

The November 2008 repayment is past due.

The December 2008 repayment is past due.

January 10, 2009: Danna wrote to me and apologizes to her lenders for missing the last two repayments. There has been illness with one of the other children that have kept her focused elsewhere. She plans to pay back the rest of the loan by sending $100 every two weeks. I responded that this was okay. There is $333.33 remaining on the loan.

February 11, 2009: Danna sent $100 of her November 2008 repayment. $66.67 is remaining. I will count this as "late" (instead of "past due") in the site statistics once the $66.67 is received.

February 19, 2009: An anonymous person has paid the $66.67 remaining on Marcellus' November 2008 repayment. The November 2008 repayment is now considered "late" instead of "past due." This person wrote, "This is a gift from someone who is praying for you and felt led by the Holy Spirit to help you."

November 12, 2009: Danna sent $63.00 of her December 2008 repayment. The amount remaining due on the December 2008 repayment is $103.66. This repayment will be marked "past due" until the full repayment has been received.

December 31, 2009: Danna has sent $63.00 more of her December 2008 repayment. The amount remaining due on the December 2008 repayment is $40.66. This repayment will be marked "past due" until the full repayment has been received.

February 18, 2010: The remaining amount due ($40.66) has been received. This loan has now been repaid in full! The December 2008 repayment has been marked "late" instead of "past due."
