Make a Microloan for 5-yr old Joshua's Health!

This loan is being repaid!

First Posted On: September 20, 2010

Name: Joshua Z.

Age: 5 years old

Location: South Carolina, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $450

Loan Needed For: TRIAD Profile test (blood & urine) for metabolic and nutritional needs

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($37.50/month)

Other Notes: Joshua's mom, Jackie, writes, "Joshua was diagnosed with autism at my urging. We knew something was not typical and refused to believe that he was just a 'Late Talker;' there were many other signs as well. Luckily with persistence and therapy, he is a high-functioning little guy with autism. We started Joshua on a regiment of Cod Liver Oil, chelation baths, and B12 Patches. We have seen much improvement in his abilities to focus, as well as a decrease in his anxiety!!

My husband is self employed as a contractor, and, lately, as with most people these days, we are struggling to make ends meet.

We are requesting a loan for the TRIAD test, which is from blood and urine, to get more information on Joshua's body's needs. The test covers: Vitamin and mineral sufficiency; Insufficiencies of carnitine and NAC; Oxidative stress and antioxidant sufficiency; Detoxification adequacy; Functional status of B-vitamins; Neurotransmitter metabolism; Mitochondrial energy production; Methylation sufficiency status; Lipoic acid and CoQ10 sufficiency; Specific markers of bacterial and yeast dysbiosis; Essential amino acids sufficiency; Food sensitivities; and Intestinal hyperpermeability."

Make a Microloan for 2-yr old Aaron's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted: October 1, 2010

Name: Aaron

Age: 2 years old

Location: Michigan, USA

Diagnosis: Dyspraxia

Loan Sought: $300

Loan Needed For: Initial appointment with DAN doctor

Repayment Terms: 3 monthly payments ($100/month)

Other Notes: Aaron's mom, Laura, writes, "Aaron is our third child and the only boy. He has two older sisters (Ava 6 and Ana 4). Aaron just turned 2 years old and is the best little boy I know. We knew something was up between ages 15-18 months. At that time he had a few words he would use regularly and spontaneously and after a round of illnesses and ear infections we noticed marked regression. He became inward and aggressive and stopped playing with his favorite toys and stopped any imaginative play he knew. We began a very limited diet with him as he seems to have the same food intolerances as his sisters, and that has brought back his charming character. Recently, he has seen a pediatric neurologist to rule out seizure disorders and genetic abnormalities to give his developmental apraxia of speech a reason. So far the OAT test she ran came back grossly abnormal, and he has 3 metabolic genetic abnormalities. His "normal" doctors have no idea how to deal with this and have pretty much left us on our own. He has many of the physical ailments autistic children have (as do my daughters), but I believe we have spared them through diet and EFA supplements. For Aaron, I have my concerns because he is a boy, he is not talking (but wants to!), and he is falling off his growth curve (he has not gained any weight in one year and is down to the 5th % for weight and 15% for height). So I thought our DAN! doctor might be able to bring Aaron to a full functioning 2 year old before more symptoms get added to the dyspraxia. He is currently in speech therapy and we are hopeful it will work.

We could really benefit from this loan because my husband has been laid off from work for 2 years and just recently got hired as a local driver for a local company. He is working full time but for minimum wage. And we are trying to catch up for being without any income for 3 months. I am currently in school but this will end in September. At that time, I hope to focus on getting Aaron where he needs to be. (speech doctor appts and cooking the foods that he needs on any special diets)."

Make a Microloan for 6-yr old Julian's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: August 26, 2010

Name: Julian S.

Age: 6 years old

Location: Nevada, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $500

Loan Needed For: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT); 20 dives.

Repayment Terms: 9 months ($55.56/month)

Other Notes: Julian's mom, Rachel, writes, "Julian always has a smile on his face. He loves music and works hard everyday, he is my sunshine. He was "officially" diagnosed with autism at the age of 4, (although at age 2 we were told of him having autism) and since then we have been pursuing biomedical treatments. He has speech, occupational therapy weekly (during school as well) ABA therapy in home, takes vitamins/supplements daily, and is on a gluten-free,casein-free, soy free, egg & nut free diet.

This summer Julian has been working very hard for his ABA therapists who visit our home. He has made great progress in his language and has learned to write his phone number (with the area code), first and last name, and his address along with other huge milestones he's reached. It's exciting for us to see this. It's a mother's longing to see all of this in our children and celebrate it with him. He is doing great so far.

For the past 2 years we've been wanting to pursue hyperbaric oxygen therapy, but we have done the other therapies first as financially we just couldn't do. I am excited at where Julian is at this time, and HBOT, we believe, would benefit him greatly.

We are a previous Lend4Health family and know that if it hadn't have been for great lenders like you, we probably still wouldn't have been able to get a DAN Dr. and pursue biomedical treatments for Julian.

Thank you in advance for all of your support; it is much appreciated!"

Special Note: This is Julian's 2nd Lend4Health loan request. The first loan was $471 for Julian's first DAN! doctor appointment. That loan was repaid early, and this family is in good standing on Lend4Health. To read the first loan request, click HERE.

We are doing daily treatments and he even asks every morning when he gets out of bed, "Are we going in spaceship mom?" Calling it a "spaceship" has made it fun for him to want to get in, and, since day one, he has had no problem getting in it at all. He has been having spontaneous language and so far we are happy with his progress. We are about halfway thru our treatments. I'm happy to share that Thurs. 30th Sept.

Make a Microloan for 11-yr old Ezekiel (#2)!

This loan is past-due.

First Posted: April 20, 2010

Name: Ezekiel

Age: 11 years old

Location: Texas, USA

Diagnosis: Autism, Epilepsy

Loan Sought: $500

Loan Needed For: Travel costs to DAN! doctor (Dr. Rao) appointment on April 30, 2010 (gas for 300-mile trip @ $110; 1 night hotel @ $65; special diet food cost $60; cost to hire replacement for husband's work for 2 days @ $240). This loan also will cover 3 months of supplements recommended by Dr. Rao.

Repayment Terms: 6 monthly repayments ($83.33/month)

Other Notes: Ezekiel's mom, Rebekah, writes, "Ezekiel is a true soldier. He was diagnosed with Asberger/ADHD at age 4 1/2, autism at age 5 1/2. At 5 yrs old he spoke in jumbled words, not coherent. He ran in circles, holding a stick, 6 hrs a day. I could not hold him, he did not respond to my voice; noises terrified him. I was told to institutionalize him. We started the [GFCF] diet, and lowered some lead levels, and his speech came back organized, he gained eye contact and play skills. At age 7 1/2 he started having grand mal seizures. They were fully controlled only 6 months ago. He has lost a lot in development, but we have a very intensive therapy program that is bringing him up to age level developmentally. He has always loved horses, and horse therapy has always been a part of his life. He loves his Border Collie and pocket beagle, and takes care of them well. He plays games with his 2 siblings. He is in a boy scout group. He reads very well, and loves learning about animals. He tells jokes and stories about when he was younger, and describes his feelings. He plays basketball with his dad. He is learning to play piano. He swims. He has eye contact. I feel like crying. It has been such a long journey. After 3 years of serious seizures, it is a miracle that he is here with us. I want to encourage other parents to never give up...to always hope, and give it all you have, it is so worth it. Everytime he smiles at me, talks to me, plays... it is all a miracle (and lots of hard, hard work.)

We have had a difficult time balancing paying for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) premium and copays for compounding medication (our son has seizures with any added ingredients), costing us $375 and $150-$200 a month, and keeping up with vitamin/supplement needs. We need to keep our BCBS because our son shows immune system and IgG dysregulation at times, and we are trying to catch him off enough to get the insurance to pay for IgG IV's. Also, BCBS is covering a lot of biomedical testing (ie., Great Plains).

We have treated our son with an antiviral/B-12 shot protocol over the last 3 years, with tremendous improvement. We've also treated with the gluten- casein- soy- free diet and allergy diet for 5 yrs, as well as vitamins/minerals and airborne allergies. The last 6 months though, we have serious yeast, constipation, and gut bacteria, as well as not sleeping, or waking every hour all night long, and increasing OCD and anxiety, aggression. We saw Dr. Rao 6 months ago, and did a telephone consult 3 months ago. Lab work is indicating that Ezekiel may have PANDAS, and low dose antibiotics have been lessening the OCD and anxiety. Also, Ezekiel has tested high lead/mercury in the past. His immune system is stronger now, and his seizures under good control. Our son is not responding to prescription antivirals and antifungals as well as he was. We want to discuss a natural approach to infection control, as well as immune strengthening. We also want to discuss the Usman protocol to heal the gut better; and starting a mild chelation.

Dr. Rao has already requested we put Ezekiel on Enhansa, Klaire labs probiotics, and SB as well as vitamin D drops when we had a telephone consult. We have not been able to afford beyond the prescription medications (antiviral and anti yeast), the Nu Thera, mineral, cod liver oil, and B-12 shots each month. Our son has recovered so well, despite the ongoing gut issues.

The last time we saw Dr. Rao, he saw Ezekiel smiling and interacting; he said "We have definitely turned a corner." This year the seizures have been controlled, and he gained 7 lbs and 1.5 inches. He is reading, riding a scooter, in boy scouts, conversing and joking, and playing board games. We are moving forward. Since we want to take some next big steps, it would be good if we could see Dr. Rao in person.

Our appointment is April 30th. We have been with Dr. Rao since Ezekiel was 7. He is very wise and careful, but always moves us forward. He attends the DAN conferences and knows the latest treatments for such issues as sleep, PANDAS, etc."

Special Notes: This is this family's 2nd loan on Lend4Health. Their first loan was in the amount of $328. It was repaid, partly from gifts by others, but it was repaid after the due date. To read more about this family's first Lend4Health loan, click HERE.

Make a Microloan for Jordan and Logan's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

Photo: Jordan is in green, Logan is in blue

First Posted: March 2, 2010

Name: Jordan and Logan

Age: 5 years old (twins)

Location: Arizona, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $370

Loan Needed For: Supplements: Klaire chewable digestive enzymes, L-Acetyl carnitine, Q10, Klaire probiotic complete, Nordic Naturals cod liver oil, Natural calm, Floravital iron supplement, Vitamin D, and Methyl B-12 shots. This will last us about 2 months.

Repayment Terms: 18 months ($20.56/month)

Other Notes: Jordan and Logan's mom, Karen, writes, "Jordan and Logan are 5 year old twins and are both diagnosed with autism. They both love to play outside, do active things with the family, they love school. Jordan loves music and Logan loves math and science. Jordan was diagnosed with autism when he was 3. He has made improvements but he is still very much impacted by his autism. He struggles to communicate verbally with us but he is the hardest worker we know! He is smart, fun loving and the sweetest, cuddliest boy there is! Logan was diagnosed at 5. He is verbal, quirky, smart and just trying to function to the best of his ability in this world that is a little strange to him. He also works so hard to be the best he can be!

We have been doing biomedical treatments even before we knew it was called biomedical! It started when they were less than a year old having severe reactions to food. No doctor could get us an answer, even after GI scopes etc. We found our wonderful naturopath who started treating them with natural therapies and within 3 months they were eating food instead of being on their formula. They still struggled but were beginning to get somewhat better. Jordan has since been diagnosed with Eosinophilic colitis and Logan still suffers from constipation and yeast overgrowth. We are pursuing this treatment because it is helping my boys.

We unfortunately have hit some very hard times. I have been staying home to take care of my boys and Logan and Jordan have a 3 year old brother. I get them to all their therapies and doctor appointments. My husband was in the real estate industry and when the economy turned we really started struggling. I am working some hours as a respite worker to earn some extra money when I can. My husband pursued a job selling commercial insurance. My husband's job is commission only and takes a while to build up a client base so his company offered him a small base salary that he was supposed to have until March 2010. It wasn't much and didn't pay for all our bills but we kept moving along doing as much as we could. We have had to cut back on DAN! dr appts, testing etc and put Jordan and Logan down to the minimum amount of supplements possible. Well, my husband's employer gave him the bad news that effective immediately, they were taking away his base salary. My husband is working hard but hasn't built up enough clients to earn commission so they basically just took away all of our income. We live a very meager lifestyle, we don't splurge, go on vacations, have cable TV or expensive cars etc. We don't mind cutting back everywhere we can including dr appts. But there are some supplements that my boys need just to function and to keep from getting more ill.

Any loan that could be given to us to keep my boys from having to stop their much needed supplements would be greatly appreciated!"

Make a Microloan for 5-yr old Sam's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

...photos removed at family's request...

First Posted On: December 5, 2009

Name: Sam S.

Age: 5 years old

Location: California, USA

Diagnosis: Sensory Processing Disorder

Loan Sought: $400

Loan Needed For: One-hour follow-up appointment with DAN! doctor on January 19, 2010, to go over test results.

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($33.33/month)

Other Notes: Sam's mom, Angela, writes, "Sam was born 9 weeks premature due to a placental abruption and spent the first 7 weeks of his life in the NICU. He had 7 weeks of over-the-top sensory experiences when he should have been tightly embraced in darkness with only the sound of my voice and heartbeat (maybe my gurgling stomach!). On day 3, I watched 4 medicine pumps pushing powerful chemicals into Sam's tiny umbilical cord including one pump with DOPAMINE written huge and red. I pictured his tiny brain awash in all these meds and wondered what kind of long-term effect it was all going to have. Days after being released from the NICU and 2 weeks before his due date, I diligently took Sam to the pediatrician where he was given 4 combination vaccines without any regard to his immature immune system. He's had digestive problems and sensory integration issues from the very start. Since he steadily gains weight, the doctors shrug off an obvious digestive/allergy issue - chronic reflux, diarrhea, tummy aches, bloating, dark circles under his eyes and constant angry red rashes. He self-restricts his diet in fear of things hurting his stomach or making him "wacky-smacky."

Sam was diagnosed with SPD shortly before he turned 3 and is being treated by an amazing and life-changing occupational therapist. He's come a long way and is working on being able to handle a mainstream classroom next year, but I feel his digestive/allergy issues are the last hurdle to jump to get him feeling better.

Sam is such a curious and enthusiastic kid and it breaks my heart that he has gotten used to feeling bad all the time. We've had our initial appointment with our DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor and I am so relieved to have someone take these symptoms seriously and acknowledge the gut/brain connection with Sam's SPD. We've started basic supplements that have made a huge difference in his sensory over-responsivity. Now we need to figure out what is upsetting his very out-of-whack system. We are asking for a loan to cover the initial round of tests ordered by his DAN! doctor."
Note: Sam's dad received an unexpected work bonus, which the family is using to pay for the tests. On December 29, 2009, the family changed their loan request to help cover the follow-up appointment with the doctor to go over the results of the tests.

Special Note: Angie writes, "Anne Letaw referred me to Tori's GFCF Blog when she suggested a GFCF diet might help with my son's digestive AND sensory issues. I started following Tori's blog and read about her brilliant idea for Lend4Health when she first thought of it. I followed Lend4Health even before all the details were worked out. Did I mention it is brilliant?!?"

February 13, 2010: Thank you note from Sam's mom, Angie: "Thank you, thank you to all of Sam's lenders! Thanks to your loans, we were able to have our follow-up appointment with our DAN doctor. The most significant (and somewhat surprising) discovery was an IgG 3+ for soy. It instantly made complete sense with Sam's history and explained why months and months of journaling his food wasn't revealing an obvious offender for his rashes and tummy aches. Soy was in many of his supplements and most of his favorite foods. It's a tricky ingredient like that. We stopped soy immediately and within days, his rashes disappeared!! His stomach is noticeably less distended. Preschool accidentally gave him a soy containing snack this past week and his face instantly broke out and his little nose was red and swollen. Soy is so obviously the culprit now. I don't know how long it would have taken to figure it out without doing these tests. We also found out he has significant B-6 and B-12 deficiencies and confirmed a significant GI dysfunction. Sam also had a few heavy metal red flags that we need to do more comprehensive tests for. I've been immersed in information gathering and organizing our plan of attack. I am deeply grateful for your generosity that allowed us to finally get some solid answers and a definitive action plan to start healing Sam's body. Thank you with every fiber of my being!

Sincerely,
Sam's Mom"

Make a Microloan for 4-yr old Olivia's (#2) Health!

This loan is past due.

First Posted On: November 6, 2009

Name: Olivia

Age: 4 years old

Location: Florida, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $498

Loan Needed For: Blood test (performed by Olivia's doctor) to see if she has the XMRV retrovirus. (The full amount of the test is $650, so this loan will cover part of it.)

Note: On December 14, 2009, Olivia's mom wrote to request that we end the loan request. The family went ahead with the blood test and has decided to use the loan collected to date ($92) for Olivia's supplements.

Repayment Terms: One lump-sum repayment due by March 31, 2010.

Other Notes: Olivia's mom, Angie, writes, "Olivia's doctor is going to do a blood test to see if she has the retro virus XMRV. This is extremely cutting edge new stuff but it is a virus that they believe is linked to autism. She will be one of the first few children to get tested for this. If it comes back positive we will have to go from there and it is pretty much uncharted water, but we are really excited that this might be the beginning of a cure or resolution to autism. That is one of the hardest things about autism, no answers for what caused it."

Special Note: This is the family's second Lend4Health loan request. The first loan was repaid on-time. To read about the first loan for Olivia, please click HERE.

Make a Microloan for 4-yr old Emily's Health!

This loan has been repaid!

First Posted On: November 5, 2009

Name: Emily

Age: 3 years old

Location: Arizona, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $370

Loan Needed For: Initial parent interview and child assessment with DAN! doctor Joel Morgan, scheduled for November 19, 2009.

Repayment Terms: One lump-sum repayment due by December 1, 2010.

Other Notes: Emily's mom, Camille, writes, "Emily is 3 and has been diagnosed [with autism] for a year. She is loving and spirited and has come a long way over the last year. She is in therapy most of her days and is the hardest working 3 year old that we know! We know that taking this next step in her healing is going to help her gut issues tremendously.

Emily has some GI [gastro-intestinal] issues. She doesn't eat for 5 - 6 days at a time, a few times a month. We have taken her to GI doctors, blood work drawn and she has gotten scoped and biopsies have come back negative. They say that it is an "Autism thing" and she has mild acid reflux, but they cannot provide any other explanation of what could be happening. We need to see a DAN! [Defeat Autism Now] doctor at this point, desperately, as she continues to lose weight. Thank you so much. I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to give Emily this opportunity that she so desperately needs."

November 10, 2009: This loan has been funded!

November 10, 2009: Promissory note sent to Camille for signature.

November 11, 2009: Signed promissory note received.

November 11, 2009: Loan of $375 disbursed via check in mail. This loan is scheduled to be repaid in one lump-sum by December 1, 2010.

November 16, 2009: Thank you from Camille: "I apologize for taking so long to send this to you...life has gotten in the way! I can't tell you what this loan means to us, so I thought illustrating it and showing what Emily goes through will help show how much this means to her and our family.

Four nights ago, Emily woke up in the middle of the night screaming for the second time in the past week. She was holding her stomach and saying "owie." She had explosive diarrhea (which resulted in a messy bed!) after being constipated all day. She was in so much pain. This example is something that happens on a weekly basis. Normally, after cleaning her up, I would have held her and told her that I was sorry, that I don't know what to do or what hurts her so badly. I would have told her that I wish I could take it all away and make her feel better to where this doesn't happen again, week after week. I would have cried alongside her, feeling helpless.

Not this time. This time, I was able to tell her that I know her belly hurts and that we are going to get her help. I told her all about the nice people who lent us money to take her to the specialty doctor. I told her how we were going to do everything that can possibly be done to help her belly feel better. I told her that there were people who loved her and were doing what they could to help us to get her help. I told her about Dr. Morgan and about all the kids he is helping, just like her. I told her that her appointment was coming up soon and there hopefully wouldn't be many more nights like this.

I don't think she understood most of what I was telling her (although she surprises me every day with what she does understand), but it made me feel better knowing that seeing a DAN! doctor was going to be a possibility. Instead of feeling helpless, I felt full of hope and love, knowing that loved ones and perfect strangers helped make seeing a doctor that could help her a possibility.

On the day that we found out our loan had been funded, Emily and I had a dance party. We did the happy dance over and over again. I told her that we are going to be able to take her to the doctor that will help make her belly feel better and I put out her markers and construction paper. I have attached her drawing and thought it appropriate to share it with you and those that funded our loan. More times then not, she draws sad faces. I think because she doesn't feel good most of the time. Knowing that she was going to see a doctor to help her belly must have made her happy... "Emily" in the picture, is smiling.

So, Thank You. Thank you a million times, thank you. We wouldn't have been able to take this next step if it weren't for all of you and Lend4Health. Thank you for making it possible to help my little girl.

Sincerely yours,
Camille"

November 27, 2009: Update from Camille: "I wanted to let you know how the DAN! appointments went with Dr. Morgan.

It was GREAT! We went over the paperwork I filled out and Emily's history that I wrote and such. I told him that so far in the month of November, Emily didn't eat food 12 days out of 19. Not only was he shocked at the severity of Emily's hunger strikes, he also realized very quickly that something was severely wrong with Emily's GI/immune system. He couldn't understand why Phoenix Children's Hospital did not do more and dig deeper. He looked at the red circles under her eyes and knew he was looking at a sick girl. PCH didn't even do a thorough endoscopy and didn't do a full colonoscopy which he was really upset about. He thinks that they could have found something if they looked, which has been my feeling all along. I felt that there was so much more that they could do, but instead we got the brush off and told that it was an "autism thing" and that we need to get working with a better feeding therapist.

He ordered a stool analysis, blood work and a urine test to see if we could find what was happening. He said that we would only do the necessary tests first instead of doing everything, to not only help ease the cost of it all, but also so we don't do unnecessary tests and waste money. We will let the tests guide us on what to do next. I thought that was not only wise, but a great plan. He thinks that she has major food sensitivities other then what we already know about, along with either a bacterial infection/overgrowth or a fungal infection/overgrowth. Her immune system is elevated and working harder then it should, which explains the fevers every other week (or every other day in some cases).

He also started her on a multi that is good for kids on the spectrum, a probiotic (although we can't start it until after the stool test) and an EFA. He loaded me up with books and studies to look at. He also put me in touch with a feeding therapist that works with ASD kids that have severe feeding issues/hunger strikes. Unfortunately, she is not contracted with the state, so we are unable to afford her. She did send me some info though and invited us to hear her speak at some upcoming events.

The most important thing that he did was give us hope. Hope that something could be done, or looked into further. He was confident that with a little more digging, we could find the cause of her pain and help ease it. He said that he thinks once the pain is gone, we will need to teach Emily to eat again. He feels that she has associated eating with pain and does the minimum food intake to just stay alive.

So, Eric and I were trying to figure out how to pay for the tests, because we need to do them soon. Thankfully, his father has said that he will pay for all of her testing. He read the reports and realize it is a real issue. He was impressed with the level of expertise and thoroughness that Dr. Morgan gave Emily.

We see him again in 3 weeks to go over tests and the very detailed food/poop/behavior journal that we were asked to complete in the mean time. I feel like we are going in the right direction and look forward to Emily's healing journey.

Thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do for so many families. With all of the negativity and everything that is happening in our world, I think we have lost faith in people. We seem to focus on the bad, crime shows that depict unspeakable things are on our televisions every night, the news is full of stories of hate, despair and grief. You and the lenders at Lend4Health have helped me to believe in people again and the great things that a small community can do.

Much love,
Camille"

December 17, 2010: Lump sum repayment of $375 received. This loan has been repaid in full!

Update from Camille: "Emily is doing great. We were unable to continue with her DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] protocol, due to financial reasons. We are still exploring medically at this point though because she has insurance that will pay for it. My husband lost his job in October, and before that we were still playing catch up from the last time he was unemployed.

We are seeing a very good GI doctor that was recommended to us from our local Autism Society of America group. We are in the exploratory phase of food allergies, etc. Hopefully, we will get her allergies and diet under control. From the little that we have done, she is showing great progress with her chronic constipation. She is finding relief AND a very happy kid. We haven't had a tummy screaming fit in quite some time, so we are very grateful for that.

The DAN! doctor that we saw with the Lend4Health loan was incredible. He helped me to find her signals of something going on, and how to help. Although we cannot continue with him at this time, we are grateful for the opportunity to have seen him. We also were able to pay for my son to be seen by him to help him with his chronic diarrhea issue. Both kids are still having some issues, but it is looking much, much better.

On another note, we did have our baby! Benjamin was born 8 pounds 14 ounces. Due to complications during birth though, he was airavac'd to the NICU at Phoenix Childrens Hospital. He is still there, but we hope to have him home soon. It has been hard on all of us, but we cannot wait to have our whole family under one roof! He was not breathing at birth and was deprived of oxygen for some time. We are seeing developmental delays now and will have to continue to monitor him as he grows. He is at risk now for Cerebral Palsy in addition to his already "at risk" status for Autism, since our other two have it. We are happy that he is finally here!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season!

With love and appreciation,
Camille and Emily

Make a Microloan for 3-yr old Kevin's Health!

This loan is being repaid.

First Posted On: August 11, 2009

Name: Kevin

Age: 3 years old

Location: Ohio, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $475

Loan Needed For: Comprehensive stool analysis test ($330) and a microbial organic acids test ($145) from Great Plains Laboratory.

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($39.58/month).

Other Notes: Kevin's mom, Holly, writes: "Kevin is a beautiful little man who just turned three. He was officially diagnosed with autism on April 1 of this year...we hope that's the day he fools everyone and loses his diagnosis! When he feels well, Kevin is joyful and giggly. He is also a runner [ie., he runs away from them when he's not supposed to]. We are working on that - but to help him attend better, we need to be working on his gut issues! He still has 5-6 truly foul "spackle" diapers every day that are leaving his bottom red and chapped.

We started him on the GFCF [gluten-free, casein-free] diet in December of 2008 (pre-diagnosis...we really didn't need a doctor to tell us what was going on) and saw immediate cognitive gains. We were on the DAN [Defeat Autism Now] bandwagon pretty much immediately after that, albeit on our own with help from the internet. He started ABA [applied behavior analysis] therapy this summer and we saw more progress - joint attention, occasional interest in other children. We got in to see Dr. Nash this summer as well.

Kevin was a normally developing baby until he turned 7 months old. He had a grand mal seizure after receiving part 2 of his first (AND LAST) flu shot. After his hospital stay, he started to develop very dark circles under his eyes, appeared to "space out" frequently, and stopped meeting any cognitive or speech milestones.

We feel like there is SO much hope for Kevin to come back to us - he doesn't use more than 4 words on a regular basis, but he has said more words in this last week - and APPROPRIATELY, than ever before! He's starting to acknowledge his siblings. That's been torture, having his brother or sister offer him a toy and seeing him brush right past them as if they aren't there. Heck, I'd love it if he'd FIGHT with them every day!

We just want him to feel well enough to continue his therapies and benefit from them. We are paying out of pocket for pretty much everything at this point, and things are looking a little grim financially. I hope to become employed as a nurse aide within the next month, so that I can work evenings while my husband stays home with Kevin, our 18 month old daughter Maggie, and our 5 year old son Patrick. Thanks for reading our story...and good luck with your own stories!"

Make a Microloan for 4-yr old King's Health!

This loan is past-due.

First Posted On: August 12, 2009

Name: King

Age: 4 years old

Location: Ohio, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $500

Loan Needed For: Initial testing at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Lab that is not covered by insurance.

Repayment Terms: 12 months ($41.67/month).

Other Notes: King's mom, Erica, writes, "My son King loves to play with big Lego blocks, he loves to run, he's very affectionate and loves hugs and kisses, he loves music, and the credits at the end of movies. King was diagnosed with autism in April 2009. He is currently involved in occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, and music therapy. At the present time I'm trying to get him in preschool (special needs). I am pursuing this [biomedical] treatment because I believe that his autism can be reversed. I have that strong faith and I believe. I need this loan to help with the bill of testing that is not covered by insurance.

Since April 2009 our lives have completely changed. We never thought that this would happen to our son King. As days go by I am learning a lot more about autism. I truly pray and hope that someone out there will bless us so that we can get these tests done soon. Thank you and God bless you!"

Make a Microloan for 6-yr old Irene's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted On: August 5, 2009

Name: Irene

Age: 6 years old

Location: Florida, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $300

Loan Needed For: Follow-up phone consultation on September 3, 2009, with Irene's DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor, Dr. David Berger

Repayment Terms: One lump sum, 12 months after loan fulfilled

Other Notes: Irene's mom, Ivonne, writes, "Irene is an amazing girl who was diagnosed with autism at the age of four. After contacting other families of autistic children and listening to their testimony, we implemented the Gluten Free Casein Free (GFCF) diet for our daughter with great success. Three months after the diagnosis, I had the first visit with Dr. Berger, a DAN Doctor. From that moment on, my daughter’s condition has been improving. Irene, who was non-verbal at the age of five, is now able to communicate through simple sentences. She is also learning to read. That is something.

Like many other children on the spectrum, Irene has metal toxicity, chronic yeast infection, allergies, and metabolic and hormonal imbalance.

This is Irene’s treatment: Super NuThera with P5P, Cod Liver Oil, Kirkman Calcium, Pro bio gold, MB-12 q3d, Folinic acid, Taurine, Selenium, Vitamin D3, Epsom salt baths and Ketoconazole. We just finished the last chelation cycle using DMSA and Glutathione.

I am an immigrant who works full-time as an elementary teacher and I do not have any family members who can help with the cost of Irene’s medical treatment. I have exhausted all my resources and I do not know where else to go to get the money necessary to pay for the treatment that has been working so well for my daughter. We need to discuss with the Doctor how Irene has responded clinically to the chelation, discuss the results of the tests that he ordered during our last consultation in March, and figure out what treatments will be more effective for my child. Thank you for your consideration."

August 27, 2009: Promissory note sent to Ivonne for signature.

August 27, 2009: Signed promissory note received from Ivonne.

August 28, 2009: Loan of $300 sent to Ivonne via PayPal. This loan is scheduled to be repaid in one lump sum on September 1, 2010.

August 28, 2009: Thank you note from Ivonne: "Dear lenders, We wanted to let you all know how much we appreciated what you have done for us. Helping our daughter recover from autism is a long and difficult journey. Knowing we have the support of people like you surely helps. You are truly making a difference in our daughter's life. Thank you on behalf of Irene, gracias from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,
Ivonne and Ramón
Irene's Parents

September 4, 2009: Update from Ivonne: "We had the consultation with Dr. Berger. Things look better. The lead level came out OK. We are going to make another chelation cycle with DMSA, in case there is more lead "hiding" in her body. Irene is beginning to take a compounded medicine (I do not remember the name) to regulate the adrenal function. The minerals and vitamins are where we want them to be for the first time, so we will stick to our current regime. We are going to forget about yeast for now (we tried everything already, what a nightmare) since Irene is clinically improving. In three months we will repeat the tests and talk to him. Thank you again for helping us. Ivonne"

October 19, 2009: Update from Ivonne: "Irene is doing better, particularly in school. We had one of those killing viruses but it is over now. Ramon, Irene's father, is back from Spain. He got connected with several galleries [he is an artist]. Saludos, Ivonne"

August 27, 2010: Lump-sum repayment of $300 received, early (due September 1, 2010). This loan has been repaid in full!

August 27, 2010: Update from Ivonne: "Thank God Irene is doing VERY WELL. I cannot tell you how happy we are. She is talking "Spanglish" and improving her social skills. Her imagination and sense of humor are amazing (her therapist says she could be a comedian). She enjoys inventing stories and illustrating them (I never thought an autistic kid could do that). Her universe has expanded to the extent that she is projecting into her "future." (When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher and "take me" to Egypt and China).

As other parents of autistic kids, we keep working to help our child rise above the challenges imposed by her condition. The biomedical treatment plays an important part in that. Making possible that appointment last September was a big opportunity for us. Thank you again and good luck in your important mission."

Make a Microloan for 6-yr old Ashleigh's Health!

This loan is past-due.

First Posted On: July 22, 2009

Name: Ashleigh

Age: 6 years old

Location: Texas, USA

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $430

Loan Needed For: Stool test ($290), DAN! doctor appointment ($60), and travel/gas to get to DAN! doctor appointment ($80)

Repayment Terms: 18 months ($23.89/month)

Other Notes: Ashleigh's mom, Monica, writes, "Ashleigh is 6 years old. She is very happy when her tummy doesn't hurt. She loves bubbles, bouncing balls, cartoons, and trampolines. When she was born she screamed and cried and this continued throughout her life. She had acid reflux when she was a baby. She developed normally and she even said a few words until she was around 14 months old. She would give us kisses say i love you, thank you, please, and daddy. One night Ashleigh started slamming her head into the wooden slab underneath the padding on her playpen. She stopped sleeping, lost eye contact, began stimming on tags and pens, became non-verbal, no longer wanted affection, and was gone.

I found with biomedical treatment and diet that she is slowly but surely recovering. I started pursuing treatment for Ashleigh last year because she regressed more so than ever before. She quit eating and drinking. Her belly was hugely distended and she screamed and put holes in her bedroom wall with her head. She even looked drugged part of the time. I took her to one doctor after another but none of them helped and all blamed her symptoms on her autism diagnosis. Frustrated and petrified because I was watching my baby starve to death, I turned to biomedical treatment. This has been the only treatment that has helped my daughter. Doctors never helped her. She once went without a bowel movement for 18 days and the doctors acted as if I was making that up. Biomedical treatment has helped my daughter tremendously. She is battling yeast overgrowth. Ashleigh's father got laid off from his job 2 months ago. We no longer have the money for treatment. She is slowly regressing without her medicine and supplements." Ashleigh's doctor is Carmen Otero in San Antonio.
