Other Notes: Sevyn's mom, Tiffany, writes: "My son Sevyn is four and was diagnosed with autism shortly after his second birthday. He was non-verbal, made no eye contact, and rejected our attempts to be affectionate with him. We spent two years doing early intervention, the gluten-free casein-free [GFCF] diet (with many infractions) and applied behavioral analysis [ABA]. His teachers have helped him so much, but the progress was slow and we'd see him regress quickly without school and constant therapy. He was sleeping only a few hours a night and waking every hour or so screaming, he had chronic diarrhea and was bloated, he would hit us and himself, and despite all of the progress he had made in school, he was still barely communicating with us. When we found a local Defeat Autism Now [DAN] Doctor, we knew right away we wanted to work with him and do what we could to bring Sevyn to a place of optimal health.

Dr. Matt Freedman sent me information on GFCF and we learned that we were allowing many infractions to take place and that we had been exposing Sevyn to all kinds of hidden sources of gluten. Finally some guidance with the diet! We had seen improvements from eliminating gluten and casein, but there was so much we didn't know. Now we are also sugar- and soy-free and much more diligent about being free of gluten and casein.

Dr. Freedman
also talked with us about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy [HBOT] and so we did our research. The proposed benefits seemed too good to be true, also too good not to give it a try! Sevyn had been having seizures before we started HBOT and in our research we found many inspiring stories of recovery from seizures and traumatic brain injury. I am so happy to say that since we started our hourly sessions five days a week in the hyperbaric chamber, we haven not seen any seizure-like symptoms at all! We have seen so much improvement and progress since the first session! He sleeps more and wakes less, more talking and pointing, more eye contact, improved digestion, including some of his first formed bowel movements! He seems so much more comfortable in his skin and we are too!

As his mother I am thrilled with his progress and have also improved in many ways from going in the chamber with him! You can learn more about our journey on our Facebook page (click HERE) or on my new blog, Autism Is Reversible (click HERE). I keep a journal here and post updates and my research as I find it. I made a YouTube video to share Sevyn's progress with HBOT (see below). He has come so far and we know he can go much much further!!!

Sevyn is such and amazing little boy! He has been working with Dr. Freedman for only 2 1/2 months and already he has made amazing progress! Despite having toxic levels of arsenic in his little 4 year old body he is learning to speak and play! His pediatrician would ignore his arsenic levels and we want to do something about them right now! How much more could he learn if he didn't have arsenic and lead in his body?!

Sevyn's 30 sessions of HBOT were donated by Dr. Freedman. He has done so much to help us, but now we need to take the next step to help Sevyn get well, and this loan will allow us to get him going on the path to optimal health. Sevyn is a precious boy and deserves a chance at a healthy life!"

New video sent September 6, 2009: Sevyn rides his tricycle for the first time!

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to Sevyn's loan request and helped to spread the word about Lend4Health! We are so excited to finally get him started on the supplements he needs and start ordering the lab work! Our experience with Lend4Health has been so wonderful and such a beautiful demonstration of the kindness that surrounds us all. We are all connected and so very blessed to have each other. I would like to extend special thanks to Tori Tuncan and Dr. Freedman for their endless efforts on behalf of children with autism and their families! Your love, faith, and generosity are contagious and we want you to know how much we appreciate your hard work! We are so blessed to have found you both! To all the other Lend4Health families present and future, we wish you the best in your recoveries ~ autism is treatable and treatment is fundable! Much love, Tiffany, EG, Grey, and Sevyn!"

October 21, 2009: This loan has been disbursed via check in the mail. This loan is scheduled to be repaid over 18 months, beginning on December 15, 2009.

December 9, 2009: Update from Tiffany: "Sevyn is doing great! We just started a new ABA-based home schooling program called ReThink Autism! I wrote them and was able to get a scholarship for Sevyn. We are getting things underway and slowly adding all the new vitamins and supplements the loan helped us pay for as well as getting all the lab work done (it took a while to find the right pediatric urine collection bags). Sevyn is responding wonderfully and continues to make great progress! He's still doing HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen therapy] 4 days a week for an hour a day and is on a strict GF/CF [gluten-free casein-free] diet. We are so proud of him and ever thankful to everyone who helped us reach our goal through Lend4Health. We'll continue to update as we go! Thanks again everyone!"

February 6, 2010: 3rd repayment of $66.33 (due Feb. 15) received, early. An overpayment of $33.67 was also received, which will be applied to the 4th installment due March 15. The amount now due on March 15 is $32.66.

June 9, 2010: Update from Tiffany: "Dear Lenders, We wanted to thank you all again for helping us help Sevyn heal. He's doing well with his home schooling curriculum and potty training. He's adjusting to the addition of a new sibling to the family because we welcomed a little girl to the clan on April 28th! Sevyn was home for the water birth of his little sister! He said, "It's a girl! It's alive!" when he saw the new baby. It was very sweet.

With the new addition we've had extra expenses and we will be paying our installment a little late this month. We hope you all understand. We want you all to know that we really appreciate our Lend4Health lenders and your generous contribution to our child’s wellbeing.

With the loan we were able to have several tests done (and purchase needed supplements) as well as some follow up testing, and the test results are all finally in. Sevyn's lab work shows high levels of heavy metals in his system, yeast overgrowth, and a toxic bacterial infection in his gut. Sevyn’s local DAN! Doctor has referred us to another DAN! (Dr. Leigh Ann Chapman www.chapmannd.com) in Portland who has more experience treating these kinds of issues. Dr. Chapman is a naturopath and has many years of experience in the care and treatment of children on the autism spectrum. We will be paying for this appointment out of pocket as well as all travel expenses for our family of five. We are struggling to pay the bills and cover these extra expenses, plus all of Sevyn’s supplements, ongoing therapies and sensory needs, and organic GF/CF/SF foods.

We promise we will always make our monthly installments! It is very important to us and we always factor the installments into our budget. Just please be forgiving if our payments are not always on time. =) Thank you again for lending and loving. Hope all is well for all of you, Sevyn and Family"

February 25, 2011: Note to lenders from Tiffany:

Dear Lend4Health Lenders:

We are so happy to finally be paying off our Lend4Health loan in its entirety. Sevyn has made so much progress since we began this journey and we are VERY thankful for the support along the way! Our whole family has progressed with him, where there was once darkness, now there is abundant light! Sevyn is very close to being fully potty trained and his gut issues are much better, as long as we maintain his gluten free, casein free, soy free, organic and overall healthy diet. He's happy and in a typical kindergarten class 70-100% of his day. He has a wonderful 1:1 instructional assistant and has been bonding with her, his teacher, and his peers at school.

He did 5 months of Qigong Sensory training and it was another intervention that REALLY pushed him forward into a MUCH more verbal place -- a place where he stims so much less and the sensory issues are few!! He is still working with Dr. Chapman, the naturopathic DAN doctor in Portland. She'll be seeing him again soon and hopefully increasing his MB12 shots so we can give him one every day. The days when he has his MB12 shots and Qigong are the best days for us all, so we're looking forward to seeing that side of him everyday.

None of this would have been possible or will continue to be possible for Sevyn if people don't believe he can heal and that kids like him deserve a chance to get better. Not just to be swept under the rug, labeled as low functioning and tossed aside, but to be recognized as an amazing individual, with unique skills and talents, and all the potential in world!

Thank you all again for helping us make our dreams of hearing our son speak, potty training him, ending the self abuse, seeing him ride a bike and sleep through the night, and seeing him off to a typical kindergarten as a conversational individual come true! This is just the beginning so THANK YOU ALL! Please consider re-loaning your loan from Sevyn to another Lend4Health child in need. Thank you all again ~ please send me (through Tori at Lend4Health) your email address if you would like further updates on Sevyn's progress.

Tiffany
