Loan Needed For: Partial payment of 40 HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen therapy] dives at Clinique Magali.
Repayment Terms: One lump sum, paid 24 months after loan is fulfilled.
Other Notes: Benny's mom, Lidia, writes, "I have worked hard to document the many gains that my son had using the HBOT before (click HERE). It has helped his recovery. I am hoping that he can complete another 40 dives.
This journey has been a difficult one and has depleted me financially but I have my son back and there is no price tag for that.
I want to be able to complete 40 more HBOT dives. I have $1,100 and need an extra $2,000. There is a chance that another organization can fund the remaining $3,000.
Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity."
Special Notes: Lidia has worked hard, in coordination with Benny's therapy team, to document the gains they have noticed over time from his past HBOT dives. This is a long, but very informative, list, so I have posted it on a separate web page as a Google document. To read more about Benny's gains from past HBOT dives, please CLICK HERE.

Loan Needed For: To help fund the cost of purchasing a used hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chamber.
Repayment Terms: 24 months ($175/month)
Other Notes: Ish's mom, Naima, writes, "Ish is an awesome little 5 year old. He's the youngest of my 4 children. His sense of humor shines through, penetrating the walls around him called Autism. He's in constant pain and still constantly wears a beautiful smile. His brave little heart is infectious and it keeps me fighting for his health even when the well's run dry.
Since Ish's diagnosis our family has suffered tremendously. My ex husband and I separated shortly after his diagnosis, 3 years ago. Since then this road to recovery has been quite rocky. We lost our home, I lost my business, and our older children lost out on a lot too. Autism rips everyone apart one by one beginning with the host, then spreading to his loved ones. Everyone's affected.
In August we traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida. Mark Fowler, chairman of Hyperbaric Center for Children granted Ish 30 hours of Oxygen. While in treatment, Ish spoke his first words ever. Sadly after exhausting all financial resources we returned to California. My little bit of work (as a hairstylist) is our only means of income. Not being able to work for 4 weeks caught up to us.
Oxygen therapy was the most encouraging part of our journey so far. Ish began playing with unfamiliar children for the first time ever, he spent many nights in my bed, eyes to eyes trying to communicate with me. He showed empathy to a stranger's baby that was crying (wanting to sing to it and kiss it). I got a glimpse at life without Autism.
He spoke his very first sentence in his life "Go downstairs, go downstairs now." He and I spent 10 minutes afterwards just laughing with excitement. That's when I realized he is as much, if not more, frustrated about not being able to express himself.
We've maintained the DAN [Defeat Autism Now] protocol by the grace of God (seriously). We're currently on Chelation (DMPS and EDTA suppositories). Within 4 months it will be time to finish his unfinished hyperbaric treatment. This time the full prescribed hours are NEEDED. I KNOW he will recover with Oxygen Therapy. This time we just need to bring the Chamber to us.
Ish is my Hero!
Love and Faith, Naima"
Special Note: Naima is aware that this is a large loan request for Lend4Health purposes, but she is determined to make this happen for Ish. One of her references said, "Naima is a force to be reckoned with; she has devoted her life to helping her son."

Loan Needed For: Partial payment of 40 HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen treatment] dives at California Hyperbarics.
Repayment Terms: 18 months ($83.33/month)
Other Notes: Milo's mom, Kathy, writes, "Milo is a fabulous seven year old. He loves to build, play with his friends, and is currently in a general education classroom in kindergarten. Milo has come a long way since his original diagnosis as "low functioning autism." We believe that Milo is on his way to recovery and the HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen treatment] is a major contributor to that recovery. We are requesting a loan in the amount of $1,500. We want to take Milo to California Hyberbarics for 40 HBOT dives (total cost of $4,500). This loan will help us pay for a portion of the full amount needed. Last summer Milo did 40 dives and we saw tremendous results. He gained language, social skills, and was more cognizant. Milo will benefit tremendously from more dives this year!!! He knows that HBOT helps him and has repeatedly asked to 'Go back to the chamber.' We would like to repeat the protocol this year but, being a family with limited financial resources (like many many families with children on the spectrum), we need help."
Special Notes: (1) Kathy learned about Lend4Health from Autism Free Zone. (2) Milo's doctor is Dr. John Green at The Evergreen Center.

Name: Jaden
Age: 4 years old
Location: Utah, USA
Diagnosis: Autism
Loan Sought: $950
Loan Needed For: MB-12 shots, DAN! doctor appointment ($250/hr), suppliments (cod liver oil, zinc, probiotics, calcium, GSE), and an IgG food sensitivity test.
Repayment Terms: 15 months ($63.33/month)
Other Notes: Jaden's mom, Jodene, writes, "Jaden was a typical baby, reaching all developmental milestones. He began to show signs of regression around 2 years old. Jaden has been gf/cf/sf [gluten-free, casein-free, soy-free] for 14 months. Prior to this he was in the midst of a slow regression. He is now showing progress. He recently learned to ride his bike, and learned the alphabet in one day! Jaden loves people and he loves animals. Jaden's autism manifests itself through communication and sensory needs. Jaden is working very hard at speaking, and we yearn for the day he can communicate verbally."
Special Note: This is the second Lend4Health loan for Jaden's family. Their first loan was repaid on-time. You can read about the first loan HERE.

Loan Needed For: Tests from Great Plains (heavy metal $135, organic acid test w/yeast $340, amino acids $219, and glutathione $85).
On 10/8/09 this loan request was reduced from $997 to $827 because the family found a compounding pharmacy where they can get B-12 injections covered by insurance, and because the family received a donation of cod liver oil from Nordic Naturals. On 2/2/10 this loan request was reduced from $827 to $779 because an online friend is paying for Zach's probiotics. These were items that were previously part of the loan request.
Repayment Terms: 12 months ($64.92/month).
Other Notes: Zachary's mom, Jackie, writes: "Zachary is 5 years old. He was diagnosed with PDD-NOS and DBD-NOS at age 3. He is currently GFCFEF [gluten-free, casein-free, egg-free], and is supposed to be on Calcium, CoEnzyme, Probiotics, B12, Glutathione, Multi's, digestive enzymes, and fish oil. We saw incredible changes over the past year of being treated biomedically. As of 3 months ago when he was receiving everything he was supposed to, he was 70% recovered. Unfortunately, he has regressed since coming off the supplements (mostly the B12 and Glutathione).
We need this loan because without it we are unable to get him what he needs. We have other children (all with special needs), and unfortunately many of their medical expenses/doctor appts/testing is not covered by insurance.
Zachary is an incredible boy. He is extremely smart and friendly and is loved by many. He has been through a rough time, as he's been sick since birth. He suffers from many things that go along with Autism (Candida, Acid Reflux, allergies, asthma, eczema, possible Celiac (awaiting scheduled surgery), weakened immune system, etc. and has spent most of his life in doctors offices/hospitals. He is a very sweet boy who just wants to be happy and play, and is an incredible athlete."

"I added an old picture of Lil' Joe to show the improvements with his eyes and personality. When he was a baby he always had that glazed over look in his eyes...he no longer has that...and HBOT [hyperbaric oxygen therapy] has made a tremendous difference." -- Lil' Joe's mom, Heidi
Other Notes: Lil' Joe's mom, Heidi, writes: "Joe is awesome! He wants to recover...you can tell by how hard he works at all his therapies and at home...all we need to do is provide him with the tools for recovery and we will get there, together.
As soon as we found out about Joe, we immediately got him all the services he was eligible for and then some. Not too long after his diagnosis of autism and epilepsy we started biomedical protocol and a day has not gone by without it and I would like for it to stay that way as he is recovering in front of my eyes.
I need this loan because our health care system in not geared to cover services that are biomedical in nature. And most importantly because we found out while he was young and we started biomedical while he was young, he is recovering and I am afraid that if we stop now, so will his progress.
Lil Joe deserves a fighting chance as do all children who do not have a voice. I am his voice, and I know by looking in his eyes that he wants recovery."

Other Notes: Will's mom, Sylvia, writes, "William has been delayed since about 9 months old. He was in a special needs preschool for 2 years and we are looking into placing him into community schooling, unless he is unable to cope, otherwise he will still attend the special needs school. We are pursuing biomedical treatment because after reading Jenny McCarthy's book about her son and his treatments we would like to try something since things never seemed right with him after his 9 month or so vaccinations. With 5 children we can ill afford $5000 up-front but believe it to be needed to help William live a normal happy life, plus we have another son who is looking at the same diagnosis, but is 3 years younger."
Special Note: Sylvia is also collecting donations on her website (click HERE), so her ChipIn goal amount will be changing frequently as donations come in on her site.

Other Notes: Sam's mom, Angela, writes, "Sam was born 9 weeks premature due to a placental abruption and spent the first 7 weeks of his life in the NICU. He had 7 weeks of over-the-top sensory experiences when he should have been tightly embraced in darkness with only the sound of my voice and heartbeat (maybe my gurgling stomach!). On day 3, I watched 4 medicine pumps pushing powerful chemicals into Sam's tiny umbilical cord including one pump with DOPAMINE written huge and red. I pictured his tiny brain awash in all these meds and wondered what kind of long-term effect it was all going to have. Days after being released from the NICU and 2 weeks before his due date, I diligently took Sam to the pediatrician where he was given 4 combination vaccines without any regard to his immature immune system. He's had digestive problems and sensory integration issues from the very start. Since he steadily gains weight, the doctors shrug off an obvious digestive/allergy issue - chronic reflux, diarrhea, tummy aches, bloating, dark circles under his eyes and constant angry red rashes. He self-restricts his diet in fear of things hurting his stomach or making him "wacky-smacky."
Sam was diagnosed with SPD shortly before he turned 3 and is being treated by an amazing and life-changing occupational therapist. He's come a long way and is working on being able to handle a mainstream classroom next year, but I feel his digestive/allergy issues are the last hurdle to jump to get him feeling better.
Sam is such a curious and enthusiastic kid and it breaks my heart that he has gotten used to feeling bad all the time. We've had our initial appointment with our DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor and I am so relieved to have someone take these symptoms seriously and acknowledge the gut/brain connection with Sam's SPD. We've started basic supplements that have made a huge difference in his sensory over-responsivity. Now we need to figure out what is upsetting his very out-of-whack system. We are asking for a loan to cover the initial round of tests ordered by his DAN! doctor."
Note: Sam's dad received an unexpected work bonus, which the family is using to pay for the tests. On December 29, 2009, the family changed their loan request to help cover the follow-up appointment with the doctor to go over the results of the tests.
Special Note: Angie writes, "Anne Letaw referred me to Tori's GFCF Blog when she suggested a GFCF diet might help with my son's digestive AND sensory issues. I started following Tori's blog and read about her brilliant idea for Lend4Health when she first thought of it. I followed Lend4Health even before all the details were worked out. Did I mention it is brilliant?!?"

We are doing a couple of supplements already, and are pursuing the GF/CF [gluten-free/casein-free] diet, but have not as yet had any tests done, or been to a DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctor. Max is a smart, fun, funny, and happy little boy, who is eager to learn, and is always ready to hit the ground running! I feel that his potential can only be maximized by pursuing a biomedical approach to his treatment. I am a single mom with only one income, and these expenses on top of normal, day-to-day expenses make it next to impossible to do anything. I hope that you will consider us for a loan. Thanks!"
Special Note: Max's DAN! doctor has requested that the labwork/tests be done prior to their first appointment, scheduled for January 8, 2010 [re-scheduled from November 5, 2009].

Name: Izaiah
Age: 3 years old
Location: Tennessee, USA
Diagnosis: Autism
Loan Sought: $1,000
Loan Needed For: First DAN! doctor appointment on December 23, 2009 ($320). The remainder will be for tests, and possibly supplements, recommended by the doctor.
Repayment Terms: 18 months ($55.56/month)
Other Notes: Izaiah's mom, Moranda, writes, "Izaiah has changed my life more than I ever thought imaginable! He brings joy into my life during the toughest times. Having such a loving little boy to come home to everyday could very well be one of the only things that keeps me going.
Since he was right about 1 year old, I had that itching feeling that something was not quite right, but I brushed it off. Family members would mention "Boys just don't develop language as quickly as little girls, he'll catch on!" I remember when someone first asked me if I thought it could be autism. "No way! Look at how happy he is! He just looks so normal. He's so affectionate, don't all children with autism hate to be cuddled?" If only someone could have told me back then how WRONG those stereotypes are!
Fast forward until August 19th, 2009. At the end of Izaiah's appointment with the developmental pediatrician, I am too scared to say anything, so I wait for him to speak first. "Izaiah is autistic." I must have look stunned, because the next thing he says is, "Are you surprised?" I want to scream! "Am I surprised?! I've been looking for an answer for two years! Everyone was so sure there was NO WAY he could be autistic!" On the drive home was when I realized it... they all knew. All of the Early Intervention aides knew, the teachers, the speech therapists, they all knew. Why didn’t they just tell me?
Since that day Izaiah has been working hard towards a full recovery! He was chosen to receive donations from a local fundraiser to receive Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, and I am so thankful for that. He only receives 4 hours a week, but that's 4 more hours than I could afford! He loves to slide and go to the park, especially this time of the year when he can throw leaves! He loves to play the drums on our Wii, and he loves going to see his grandmother. He is just learning to point to things, and he loves pointing out anything with numbers and letters! At 3 years and 2 months old, Izaiah is still completely non-verbal, but even though he can't say it with words, I KNOW how much he loves me!
I am pursuing Biomedical treatment because after reading so many great recovery stories and books about Biomedical treatment, I am certain it is a key to unlock the mysteries of autism! Izaiah has been on the Gluten and Casein free diet for 4 months already! We made slow progress until he had every trace eliminated from his diet, switched shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, everything!
We need this loan because without it there would be no way for Izaiah to continue on a path towards recovery with a Biomedical approach. Unfortunately, I am not able to come up with the money that would be needed for this appointment, especially around the holidays.
If I could get just one thing for Christmas, It would be for Izaiah to be able to have this appointment!"

December 22, 2009: An individual from Moranda's grandmother's church has gifted this family the amount needed for Izaiah's appointment tomorrow (December 23). Moranda has decided to close out this loan request and has invited her lenders to re-allocate their funds to another family on Lend4Health.
January 1, 2010: This loan has been officially closed.
Name: Avery & Anthony (Photo: Avery - top; Anthony - bottom, in hat)
Age: 4 years old (twins)
Location: Mississippi, USA
Diagnosis: Autism (both)
Loan Sought: $750 [reduced from $1,000 on Dec. 16, 2009]
Loan Needed For: IgE allergy test from Great Plains for Anthony ($600); MB12 shots for both for 1 month ($100); and anti-fungal meds (nystatin and nyzoral) for Avery ($50)
Repayment Terms: 18 months ($41.67/month)
Other Notes: Avery and Anthony's mom, Tanya, writes, "Avery and Anthony are making great progress since starting the gf/cf [gluten-free/casein-free] diet....and supplements. They are taking Super Nu Thera, Nordic Naturals fish oil, Kirkman's probio-gold, extra zinc, magnesium, MB12 shots, and congenital brain formula. They are repeating words now. Anthony has shown the most progress, but Avery is moderately autistic whereas Anthony's diagnosis is PDD-NOS. They can drink from big boy cups and Anthony is learning to eat with a fork as well as use the potty (sometimes). These are huge strides since February. That is when they started supplementing. Their DAN doctor, Dr. Calaghan, is urging us to get testing done. We know we could have answers that would help our boys out but their daddy is giving it all he has as the sole provider. They will be receiving ABA [applied behavior analysis therapy] in the fall for the first time by Dr. Mark Wildmon. I can't tell you how excited I am for this. It is an answered prayer. I certainly appreciate what Tori is doing for these little "messengers from God." I honestly feel that these kids were sent to show me what really matters and what things we need to stop putting into our bodies and theirs that are making us all sick. God bless everyone and all of our ASD [autism spectrum disorder] angels."
Special Notes: This is the second Lend4Health loan request for Avery and Anthony. Their first was paid off on time and the family is considered to be in good standing on Lend4Health, so they are permitted to request this second loan. To read about their first loan request, click HERE.

This is extremely cutting edge new stuff but it is a virus that they believe is linked to autism. She will be one of the first few children to get tested for this. If it comes back positive we will have to go from there and it is pretty much uncharted water, but we are really excited that this might be the beginning of a cure or resolution to autism. That is one of the hardest things about autism, no answers for what caused it."

Loan Needed For: Initial visit to Defeat Autism Now (DAN!) doctor Warren Levin ($850). Remainder will be used for tests and/or supplements, as recommended by the doctor.
Repayment Terms: 18 months ($66.67/month).
Other Notes: Emre's dad, Kilichan, writes: "Emre was born at 27 weeks of gestation, but was the size of a 21 weeker, that is 1 lb. 2 oz. Emre was one of the smallest born preemies in the States, actually perhaps all around the world, who could make it without any serious defect.
He had 11 surgeries during the first 9 months of his life, including open heart and open lung. He was in an induced coma for 2 months, which was achieved through the use of 5 narcotic drugs stronger than heroine, plus one paralyzing medication. He had numerous infections until he was 3 and was given more antibiotics than one could possibly handle. He has also been on albuterol (which is a known toxin) nebulizer treatments extensively since birth. Although preemies have extremely weak immune systems, he was still given the entire list of [vaccine] shots, plus several other shots specifically given to preemies, including but not limited to the flu shots.
It's been only about 3 weeks since we heard about biomedical treatment, quite accidentally through Cem Kinaci and Ahmet Aydin's websites. We've immediately cut down on casein, and reduced gluten in his diet, started Epsom salt baths and stopped giving him the formula (at night through his g-tube) because it was full of gluten, casein, and other synthetic compounds. We've started him on recommended organic foods. We make a mixture of them every night and give it through his g-tube. And we bought a special vitamin/mineral supplement (Lee Silsby's ASD formula) just yesterday. So, it has been only a short while since we've started making these changes but they've significantly affected him, of course positively. Now his sleep is much better (Epsom salt worked wonders) and he is much calmer in general. He talks more intelligently and is more focused at school, and he almost immediately stopped pinching and biting adults, which was recently a great deal of trouble at school. Overall, we've seen significant positive impact in such a short time period of time that we have no hesitation the DAN way of treatment will help him get over this diagnosis in a very short time frame.
Emre is a lovely and joyful boy (except when he is stuck, you know). As expected from a toddler, he is very curious and has incredible memory (another common trait I believe among autistic kids). It is his second year in kindergarten now, in a special education class. They say he knows every single person in the entire school by name, and it is a crowded public elementary school. His teacher was recently holding his hand and she saw one of the parents approaching, but she couldn't remember her name. She asked Emre and he didn't hesitate a second and even laughed at her because she couldn't remember. And she says he saw her only once, months ago... Recently he called Ms. Dohr, the assistant principal 'Ms. Door and Windows' and everybody burst into laughter. He is, sizewise, probably the smallest kid in the school, and people now call small things in the environment "Emre-size." He's fun, everybody loves him, we are grateful to have him... And we are dying to see the day his diagnosis is dropped; we know that he'll be the perfect child to have..."
Special Note: Emre's family learned about Lend4Health through a neighbor at the playground.

December 14, 2009: Signed promissory note received.
December 15, 2009: Loan of $1,200 disbursed, via cash, in person! [First Lend4Health loan disbursed in person!]
December 15, 2009: Thank you note: "We always felt at home here in the United States, especially after all that has been done so far for Emre's health. We've been so grateful and sincerely appreciated the medical miracles that were made possible by this great nation and its taxpayers. But there was one thing missing overall, we didn't have our family beside us, and we kind of felt alone... Today, we've realized that you don't need to be blood-related to be part of a great family of people, who are so sincere in what they are doing.
Thank you all so much, and special thanks and kudos for Tori for making this 'family reunion' feeling possible...
We'll keep you posted, and hopefully start paying back like most of you who have contributed here, as soon as possible...
Blessings, Emre's Family"
December 16, 2009: Update from Kilichan: "The initial test results revealed Candida Krusei overgrowth in his gut and low Chymotrypsin (indication of poor pancreatic output of 'all' enzymes). And his gut transit time turned out to be over 96 hours (versus less than 24 hours in normal people)... Given Emre's history, symptoms, and initial test results, Dr. Levin requested tons of other tests, they drew 16 tubes of blood for the other tests! Overall, he was very friendly and humble, but very knowledgeable... Our next appt. is on January 27th...The visit was a bit difficult for Emre due to blood drawing, thus exhaustive for us, but Dr. Levin was very pleased to see that we completely understand him and he advised us to keep on doing what we've been doing until the next visit, except for a more structured, strictly -not only GFCF, but YEAST FREE diet, which is even a little bit more restrictive than GFCF. It is going to be a 4-day rotating diet, I guess, he gave us a lot of CDs and papers for details...He had an extremely clean and home-like office, welcoming, helpful and fun staff, and he himself was very joyful and played with Emre, hugged Yildiz, etc... He obviously has the best intention and is voluntarily training special ed teachers in the county as well...We are very happy to be seen by him... And thank you once again for making this possible..."
Loan Sought: $315 [Changed from $1,000 on 10/27/09]
Loan Needed For: Zeolites for chelation ($120) and hair analysis + consultation ($195). [Changed on 10/27/09]
Note: After posting the original loan request for $1,000, Ayden's mom contacted Lend4Health saying that she had recently learned about zeolites for detoxification of heavy metals and chemicals. She wrote, "It is safer than chelation; the only side effects could be a headache & that's only if you don't drink enough water. Zeolites are from volcanic substances and it's honeycomb structure is negatively charged & attracts all toxins, captures them, & safely carries them out of the body. I've been researching different brands. A doctor told me Ayden would need to do it for about 3 months." As such, this loan request was changed from $1,000 to $315.
Repayment Terms: 18 months ($17.50/month)
Other Notes: Ayden's mom, Stephanie, writes, "Ayden was diagnosed with autism at three years old. He's been GF/CF [gluten-free/casein-free] for 1 year. He just saw a DAN! Dr. 4 months ago. He did a 6 hr. challenge test w/ oral DMSA, and the results show that Ayden has an elevated level of lead at 19. We need to do the organic acid test, as well as a red blood cell test, ASAP so we can treat the lead safely. We also found out he's allergic to wheat and soy. Since removing the soy he started talking in complete sentences! He loves tucks, cars, buses, trains, helicopters, and planes. He is very musically inclined and likes to paint. He also loves dogs, as you can see in his photo!"

December 11, 2009: Thank you note from Stephanie: "Thank you to all the lenders who made this loan possible. We are so grateful to all of you and Lend4Health. I am so excited to address this issue of heavy metals for Ayden."
Age: 4 years old (Gabriel) & 3 years old (Christopher)
Location: Mississippi, USA
Diagnosis: Autism
Loan Sought: $1,200
Loan Needed For: Basic/LINCA autism panel and advanced cholesterol profile for both children. These tests will be done through Great Plains Laboratory.
Repayment Terms: 6 months ($200/month).
Other Notes: Gabriel and Christopher's mom, Karen, writes, "Gabriel is 4 years old and was diagnosed with autism at age 3. Christopher is 3 years old and was diagnosed with autism at age 2 1/2. Neither one is able to talk, feed themselves, or understand anything, not even their own names. The only way they can communicate is to lead you by the hand. We have been going to speech and occupational therapy since diagnosis with no results.
Gabriel is more severe and has more complications. He has constant belly aches, especially at night, or anytime he does go to sleep he wakes up screaming and cries until the pain stops. All I can do is rock him and cry with him. He has had parasites before. He also has very severe rashes that constantly itch (see photo above). He scratches so much that the rash gets infected and leaves scars all over him. He constantly cries from this also. We have been to the doctor so many times for these problems and even to an allergy specialist with no results. Gabriel also has thick, yellow, brittle finger nails and toe nails (as of an elderly person) and severe body odor. Christopher has the belly aches and rashes but not as often or as severe. We are now on the gluten/casein free (GFCF) diet.
After seeing the DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor, I learned that there is help for my kids and I DON'T have to see them suffer everyday. The only problem is coming up with the money all at one time to get these tests done. I am asking for help to get my sons these tests as soon as possible. The tests are 630.00 for each child. It would take me 6 months to save enough to get these done for them. I'm praying you all can help me to go ahead and get this done for my sons so they don't have to suffer for 6 more months. I can make payments of $200.00 a month and have this paid back in 6 months.
It is so hard to watch your children suffer everyday and know that they can be helped if money weren't the issue. Their DAN! doctor believes that major improvements will be seen after starting treatments after the tests are done. They are beautiful children who deserve to be pain-free and happy like other children. Please help me make this possible for them without them having to wait for 6 more months. Thanks."

Emily has some GI [gastro-intestinal] issues. She doesn't eat for 5 - 6 days at a time, a few times a month. We have taken her to GI doctors, blood work drawn and she has gotten scoped and biopsies have come back negative. They say that it is an "Autism thing" and she has mild acid reflux, but they cannot provide any other explanation of what could be happening. We need to see a DAN! November 16, 2009: Thank you from Camille: "I apologize for taking so long to send this to you...life has gotten in the way! I can't tell you what this loan means to us, so I thought illustrating it and showing what Emily goes through will help show how much this means to her and our family.
Four nights ago, Emily woke up in the middle of the night screaming for the second time in the past week. She was holding her stomach and saying "owie." She had explosive diarrhea (which resulted in a messy bed!) after being constipated all day. She was in so much pain. This example is something that happens on a weekly basis. Normally, after cleaning her up, I would have held her and told her that I was sorry, that I don't know what to do or what hurts her so badly. I would have told her that I wish I could take it all away and make her feel better to where this doesn't happen again, week after week. I would have cried alongside her, feeling helpless.
Not this time. This time, I was able to tell her that I know her belly hurts and that we are going to get her help. I told her all about the nice people who lent us money to take her to the specialty doctor. I told her how we were going to do everything that can possibly be done to help her belly feel better. I told her that there were people who loved her and were doing what they could to help us to get her help. I told her about Dr. Morgan and about all the kids he is helping, just like her. I told her that her appointment was coming up soon and there hopefully wouldn't be many more nights like this.
I don't think she understood most of what I was telling her (although she surprises me every day with what she does understand), but it made me feel better knowing that seeing a DAN! doctor was going to be a possibility. Instead of feeling helpless, I felt full of hope and love, knowing that loved ones and perfect strangers helped make seeing a doctor that could help her a possibility.
On the day that we found out our loan had been funded, Emily and I had a dance party. We did the happy dance over and over again. I told her that we are going to be able to take her to the doctor that will help make her belly feel better and I put out her markers and construction paper. I have attached her drawing and thought it appropriate to share it with you and those that funded our loan. More times then not, she draws sad faces. I think because she doesn't feel good most of the time. Knowing that she was going to see a doctor to help her belly must have made her happy... "Emily" in the picture, is smiling.
So, Thank You. Thank you a million times, thank you. We wouldn't have been able to take this next step if it weren't for all of you and Lend4Health. Thank you for making it possible to help my little girl.
Sincerely yours, Camille"
November 27, 2009: Update from Camille: "I wanted to let you know how the DAN! appointments went with Dr. Morgan.
It was GREAT! We went over the paperwork I filled out and Emily's history that I wrote and such. I told him that so far in the month of November, Emily didn't eat food 12 days out of 19. Not only was he shocked at the severity of Emily's hunger strikes, he also realized very quickly that something was severely wrong with Emily's GI/immune system. He couldn't understand why Phoenix Children's Hospital did not do more and dig deeper. He looked at the red circles under her eyes and knew he was looking at a sick girl. PCH didn't even do a thorough endoscopy and didn't do a full colonoscopy which he was really upset about. He thinks that they could have found something if they looked, which has been my feeling all along. I felt that there was so much more that they could do, but instead we got the brush off and told that it was an "autism thing" and that we need to get working with a better feeding therapist.
He ordered a stool analysis, blood work and a urine test to see if we could find what was happening. He said that we would only do the necessary tests first instead of doing everything, to not only help ease the cost of it all, but also so we don't do unnecessary tests and waste money. We will let the tests guide us on what to do next. I thought that was not only wise, but a great plan. He thinks that she has major food sensitivities other then what we already know about, along with either a bacterial infection/overgrowth or a fungal infection/overgrowth. Her immune system is elevated and working harder then it should, which explains the fevers every other week (or every other day in some cases).
He also started her on a multi that is good for kids on the spectrum, a probiotic (although we can't start it until after the stool test) and an EFA. He loaded me up with books and studies to look at. He also put me in touch with a feeding therapist that works with ASD kids that have severe feeding issues/hunger strikes. Unfortunately, she is not contracted with the state, so we are unable to afford her. She did send me some info though and invited us to hear her speak at some upcoming events.
The most important thing that he did was give us hope. Hope that something could be done, or looked into further. He was confident that with a little more digging, we could find the cause of her pain and help ease it. He said that he thinks once the pain is gone, we will need to teach Emily to eat again. He feels that she has associated eating with pain and does the minimum food intake to just stay alive.
So, Eric and I were trying to figure out how to pay for the tests, because we need to do them soon. Thankfully, his father has said that he will pay for all of her testing. He read the reports and realize it is a real issue. He was impressed with the level of expertise and thoroughness that Dr. Morgan gave Emily.
We see him again in 3 weeks to go over tests and the very detailed food/poop/behavior journal that we were asked to complete in the mean time. I feel like we are going in the right direction and look forward to Emily's healing journey.
Thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do for so many families. With all of the negativity and everything that is happening in our world, I think we have lost faith in people. We seem to focus on the bad, crime shows that depict unspeakable things are on our televisions every night, the news is full of stories of hate, despair and grief. You and the lenders at Lend4Health have helped me to believe in people again and the great things that a small community can do.

What Is Lend4Health?
Lend4Health.org is a website that facilitates community-funded, interest-free micro-loans as a creative funding option for individuals and groups seeking optimal health.
Currently, Lend4Health is facilitating loans for the biomedical treatment of children and adults with autism spectrum and related disorders. Other health issues may be included on Lend4Health in the future.
Lend4Health is run by a non-profit, Lend4Health Microloans, and was inspired by the online lending system at Kiva.org.
How Does It Work?
Loan Recipients Parents/caregivers submit a loan request form (click HERE). Lend4Health checks their references and communicates with them to clarify terms, etc. Lend4Health posts to this site their needs, how much it will cost, and the terms of their loan repayment.
Lenders You -- the readers out there -- look over the profiles and choose to make a loan to somebody, in ANY amount (minimum $1) up to the loan request.
Loan Payments You will make your loan through PayPal. (Contact Lend4Health by clicking HERE is you want to make a loan another way, for example by personal check.) Once the loan amount has been fulfilled, recipients sign a written loan agreement before the loan is disbursed. Lend4Health as your agent will complete the loan process for you as the lender. Loans will be disbursed via PayPal or via check.
Loan Re-payments The loan recipient will re-pay the loan via PayPal or via check based on the terms they agreed to. Loan repayment notifications will be posted to the site so that lenders will see the progress of the repayment. Once a loan is re-paid, each lender will receive his/her loan back via PayPal. Lenders then can re-pocket their money or use it to lend to somebody else. All loans will be interest-free. Note: There is no guarantee that a loan will be repaid by the borrower; it's an honor system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Is This Just About Autism and Biomedical? Because there's a huge need for this in the autism community. Other non-autism-related health issues are considered for future coverage under Lend4Health.
How Much of My Loan Goes to the Recipient? 100% of your loan will go to the loan recipient. PayPal does take out a fee per transaction, but we try to get sponsorships to cover those fees, and donations to help run the site are happily accepted.
Is This Site Associated with Any Religion or Religious Group? No. Autism crosses all religious, racial, social, and economic lines; so does this site. However, some parents may choose to express religious sentiments in their notes of thanks for their loans, and I won't interfere with that.
Are there any caveats I should be aware of? (1) I am not the lender but rather an agent facilitating loans by individuals who volunteer to make peer-to-peer loans to the borrowers. (2) Lend4Health is a non-profit incorporated in Virginia under the name Lend4Health Microloans. Lend4Health Microloans is in the process of applying for an exemption from income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Please consult with your tax advisor on the deductibility of any donations. (3) No interest is charged to borrowers or paid to lenders. (4) There is no guarantee that loans will be repaid by borrowers. (5) Lend4Health's responsibility is limited solely to sending follow-up notices for at least six months after the due date. Lend4Health has no responsibility to take further actions beyond the six-month followup notices if a borrower defaults on a loan.
- LOAN REQUESTOR FAQs -
Who Can Request a Loan? Parents, grandparents, or legal guardians of children or adults with autism (or related disorders, like sensory processing disorder) who have been pursuing or are trying to pursue biomedical treatment. "Biomedical treatment" includes things such as a gluten-free, casein-free diet, supplementation, chelation, and treatment by DAN! [Defeat Autism Now!] doctors. Loans are aimed at helping individuals recover from autism and related disorders.
We Are Not "Officially" Poor. Can We Still Request a Loan? Yes. Consider this one of your many creative financing tools for your biomedical efforts, along with fund raisers, eBay sales, and good ol' fashioned penny pinching and saving.
Is There a Maximum Loan Amount I Can Request? Not at this point. However, keep in mind your lenders -- people just like you. Keep your loan requests manageable and specific. For example, people might be leery to lend you money for "a month of GFCF food" because it's such a vague request. Instead, try something like "a month's supply of GFCF Breads from Anna." If I receive your loan request and think you could be more effective, I'll let you know. And please remember that this site is for "microloans," so try to keep your loan request "micro."
Will All Loan Requests Be Posted? No. Lend4Health reserves the right to post or not post any loan request.
References? What References? When you request a loan via the form (click HERE), it will ask you for three references. These are not relatives or immediate family members but friends, co-workers, neighbors, and teachers who can vouch for you and your pursuit of biomedical treatment.
Is My Child's Name and/or Photo Required? No. Please consider your child's privacy and safety when deciding whether or not to post a photo, and which name to use. I have some ideas on different ways to do the photo if you have concerns in this area.
Can I Link to My Loan Request from My Website/Blog? Of course! The more people know about the site, the more loans we will get! I also recommend sending your link to all your friends/relatives. They may be wondering how they can help you, and this gives them a comfortable way to do so.
When Will I Receive My Loan? You will receive your loan as soon as it is fulfilled and as soon as you sign and return a promissory note (loan document).
How Will I Receive My Loan? Via Pay Pal, or via check in the mail.
Can I Request More Than One Loan? Sure. If you have successfully paid off a loan and are in good standing on the site, you may request another one.
I Do Not Live in the U.S. Can I Request a Loan? Yes, in most cases. If Pay Pal works in your country, then you can participate. Loan requests should be made in U.S. dollars.
What Else Do I Need To Know? Once you get your loan, your lenders would love to hear how you're doing and how their loan has helped you. Please send thank you notes, updates, and other news to me at lend4health@gmail.com and I will post it to your site.
- LENDER FAQs -
Who Can Make a Loan? Anybody with a Pay Pal account or a credit card! Registering and using Pay Pal is easy. Click HERE to go to the Pay Pal site.
What If I Don't Have a PayPal Account? If you don't have a PayPal account and are not interested in getting one, please click HERE and we'll work something out. I have accepted several loans via check in the past.
How Do I Make a Loan? Click on the "ChipIn" button at the bottom of the child's profile. This will take you to Pay Pal.
Can I Make a Gift Instead of a Loan? No. This site is for loans only. If you want to make a gift for the family, please do so outside of Lend4Health (ie, by sending them a check directly). If you want to talk to me about making a gift for a family, please click HERE.
Can I Make an Anonymous Loan? Yes. In the Pay Pal form, there is a place for Additional Instructions (optional). Just type in that you would like to be listed as "anonymous" and I will do my best.
Can We Lend as a Group? Yes. If you would like to make a group loan, use one person's Pay Pal account and tell me the name of your group in the "Additional Instructions" box on Pay Pal.
Is There a Minimum Required Loan? Yes. You must loan at least $1.
Is There a Maximum Loan I Can Give? No. You are welcome to fund an entire loan request if you would like.
When Will I Get Paid Back? You will be paid back in one lump sum when the loan is repaid by the original requestor.
How Will I Get Paid Back? Via Pay Pal, using the same Pay Pal account you used to make the loan in the first place.
What If the Requestor Defaults on the Loan? I cannot guarantee that the loans will be repaid. Please consider the risks involved in making a loan to another individual, whether it be to someone you know or a stranger on the Internet. My recommendation is to only loan as much as you could stand to lose without much heartburn. There is some old fashioned trust and faith required in making this work, and I happen to be an optimistic type of gal.
Do Loan Recipients Sign a Promissory Note? As of August 1, 2008, yes. Loans will not be distributed without a signed promissory note. As a lender, your first name will be included on the promissory note. PLEASE NOTE: I am *only* a facilitator/agent of the lender.
Can I Be Updated on the Child's Progress? Yes. I ask all loan recipients to provide updates and other news, which I will post to the site.
Inspired? Have a question or comment? Have an idea about how I could make Lend4Health better? Please contact me by clicking HERE.
Skilled? Want to help out? If you have a skill to lend to this effort, please click HERE to let me know!
Connected? Are you affiliated with or own a company that is related to the biomedical approach (organic food, supplements, GFCF food, HBOT sales, etc)? I am open to discussing ways your company can be involved. Click HERE to contact me about this.
