Other Notes: Emre's dad, Kilichan, writes: "Emre was born at 27 weeks of gestation, but was the size of a 21 weeker, that is 1 lb. 2 oz. Emre was one of the smallest born preemies in the States, actually perhaps all around the world, who could make it without any serious defect.

He had 11 surgeries during the first 9 months of his life, including open heart and open lung. He was in an induced coma for 2 months, which was achieved through the use of 5 narcotic drugs stronger than heroine, plus one paralyzing medication. He had numerous infections until he was 3 and was given more antibiotics than one could possibly handle. He has also been on albuterol (which is a known toxin) nebulizer treatments extensively since birth. Although preemies have extremely weak immune systems, he was still given the entire list of [vaccine] shots, plus several other shots specifically given to preemies, including but not limited to the flu shots.

It's been only about 3 weeks since we heard about biomedical treatment, quite accidentally through Cem Kinaci and Ahmet Aydin's websites. We've immediately cut down on casein, and reduced gluten in his diet, started Epsom salt baths and stopped giving him the formula (at night through his g-tube) because it was full of gluten, casein, and other synthetic compounds. We've started him on recommended organic foods. We make a mixture of them every night and give it through his g-tube. And we bought a special vitamin/mineral supplement (Lee Silsby's ASD formula) just yesterday. So, it has been only a short while since we've started making these changes but they've significantly affected him, of course positively. Now his sleep is much better (Epsom salt worked wonders) and he is much calmer in general. He talks more intelligently and is more focused at school, and he almost immediately stopped pinching and biting adults, which was recently a great deal of trouble at school. Overall, we've seen significant positive impact in such a short time period of time that we have no hesitation the DAN way of treatment will help him get over this diagnosis in a very short time frame.

Emre is a lovely and joyful boy (except when he is stuck, you know). As expected from a toddler, he is very curious and has incredible memory (another common trait I believe among autistic kids). It is his second year in kindergarten now, in a special education class. They say he knows every single person in the entire school by name, and it is a crowded public elementary school. His teacher was recently holding his hand and she saw one of the parents approaching, but she couldn't remember her name. She asked Emre and he didn't hesitate a second and even laughed at her because she couldn't remember. And she says he saw her only once, months ago... Recently he called Ms. Dohr, the assistant principal 'Ms. Door and Windows' and everybody burst into laughter. He is, sizewise, probably the smallest kid in the school, and people now call small things in the environment "Emre-size." He's fun, everybody loves him, we are grateful to have him... And we are dying to see the day his diagnosis is dropped; we know that he'll be the perfect child to have..."

December 16, 2009: Update from Kilichan: "The initial test results revealed Candida Krusei overgrowth in his gut and low Chymotrypsin (indication of poor pancreatic output of 'all' enzymes). And his gut transit time turned out to be over 96 hours (versus less than 24 hours in normal people)... Given Emre's history, symptoms, and initial test results, Dr. Levin requested tons of other tests, they drew 16 tubes of blood for the other tests! Overall, he was very friendly and humble, but very knowledgeable... Our next appt. is on January 27th...The visit was a bit difficult for Emre due to blood drawing, thus exhaustive for us, but Dr. Levin was very pleased to see that we completely understand him and he advised us to keep on doing what we've been doing until the next visit, except for a more structured, strictly -not only GFCF, but YEAST FREE diet, which is even a little bit more restrictive than GFCF. It is going to be a 4-day rotating diet, I guess, he gave us a lot of CDs and papers for details...He had an extremely clean and home-like office, welcoming, helpful and fun staff, and he himself was very joyful and played with Emre, hugged Yildiz, etc... He obviously has the best intention and is voluntarily training special ed teachers in the county as well...We are very happy to be seen by him... And thank you once again for making this possible..."
