Name: Justin
Age: 6 years old
Diagnosis: Autism
Loan Sought: $500
Loan Needed For: $340 for lab work with Great Plains already done. The rest ($160) is for a Porphyrin test (metals) and shipping.
Repayment Terms: 18 months (~ $27.78/month)
Other Notes: "Justin is a wonderful, smart little boy," says his mom, Karen. "He was non-verbal at 2 1/2, started using words after speech therapy but was still very delayed. He was not diagnosed with autism until he was 4 1/2, and we started treating biomedically at age 5. We have seen tremendous results from just the GFCF [gluten-free, casein-free] diet. We have also seen a difference with supplementation. We are now wanting to test for metals. We have also tested for underlying strep, but the lab will not release the results due to an unpaid balance. I have total faith that Justin can recover! We just need a little help. Thank you!" Justin's DAN! doctors are Dr. Kanelos and Dr. Hines. Karen's friend (and fellow "biomed mom"), Leslie, also tells me that Karen has been doing great work helping parents of children with autism with the Autism Society of America-North Carolina (ASNC), Union County chapter.

December 13, 2008: Update email received from Justin's mom, Karen: "Justin is doing great, we did a big blood panel and found he has high ammonia levels, so we are treating that with Yucca. Also, his B-12 was high, so we are looking at some different glutathione, maybe nasal methyl B-12. His porphyrins were within normal range, not sure if I'm buying that, so I guess we'll revisit that later. We did IgG testing and found out he has more sensitivities than we thought, so we have eliminated the offenders and are now using TriEnza. We've had to switch brands/types of supplements due to some of his supplements have things in them he is sensitive to. We are still fighting yeast, seems to be the endless battle, we have decided to use biotin and GSE, as we up the doses, yeast seems to be getting more in control. Lisa Sigismondi recommended the GFCFKids yahoo group, and I have been loving it! So much info there. Happy Holidays! Karen"
