Make a Microloan for Brothers Salamander & Potatey's Health!

This loan has been repaid in full!

First Posted: August 8, 2009

Name: Salamander & Potatey

Age: 11 years old (Salamander); 6 years old (Potatey)

Location: Massachusetts, USA

Diagnosis: Asperger's, Non Verbal Learning Disorder (NLD), ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), anxiety, bipolar tendencies, Celiac Disease, multiple food allergies, meta/mito dysfunction (Salamander). Celiac, multiple food allergies, meta dysfunction, "near miss" (Potatey).

Loan Sought: $550

Loan Needed For: Updated Metabolic Analysis Profile (MAP), through Dr. Amy Yasko, for each boy. Each MAP costs $275.

Repayment Terms: 11 months ($50/month), starting 6 months from date of loan disbursement

Other Notes: Salamander & Potatey's mom, Petra, writes, "My two guys are incredible. They have already overcome so many challenges and difficulties. Salamander is absolutely amazing and he's so so so very brave. He was diagnosed just shy of his 6th birthday with Asperger's Syndrome, Non Verbal Learning Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. Salamander's *secondary* diagnoses are ADHD, anxiety disorder, and bipolar tendencies. And then of course there is the usual stew of medical issues: Celiac's Disease, multiple food intolerances, immune system dysfunction, gut dysbiosys, meta/mito dysfunction, etc. I started biomedical treatments with Salamander when he was about 6.5 years old, moving over to Dr. Amy Yasko's protocol when he was about 8.5 years old. He's 11.5 years old now and doing phenomenal (quite a bit of his journey can be found on my blog) - he has progressed from an ATEC score of 101 to an ATEC of 8 (!!).

Potatey, Salamander's younger brother, is completely neurotypical, but with a lot of the same health problems as his big brother. I really think that the reason Potatey remained neurotypical is that I started biomedical treatments with him when he was about 11 months old (plus he was dairy free pretty much from infancy due to a severe dairy allergy). Potatey too has greatly benefited from Dr. Yasko's protocol.

I love the Lend4Health concept, I adore Tori and the entire community that she has been able to pull together. Every single loan request that has gone up has tugged at my heart strings and if I were independently wealthy, I would have funded every loan request. I never thought I would find myself on the 'requesting end'. A job loss and a series of difficult personal circumstances, however, have left me in quite a pickle.

I will need to make changes to the boys' current supplement protocols (to try to taper down where I can to save on expenses), but I need updated test results for the boys to be able to make those decisions. I have been able to scrape together enough money for an updated UTEE for Salamander, I have asked family for help in paying for an updated UTEE for Potatey. And I am turning to you all for help to pay for updated MAPs. Thank you so much in advance. My boys and I will be ever so grateful."

September 17, 2009: Update from Petra: "I got Salamander's MAP [metabolic analysis profile] results back. (This test was paid for by the loan thru the Lend4Health gang.) Overall things are looking good. Neurotransmitter metabolites much more balanced. Cellular energy and Mitochondrial metabolites are looking much better too. All the B12 I'm pumpin' into this kid is starting to do its thing. Not so good news? Malabsorption and dysbiosis markers are really out of whack again. I had to *back off* from my gut bug program a bit this summer due to Salamander's constipation issues. I need to redo a comprehensive stool analysis to see what's growing. But I am very, very happy about the improvements in neurotransmitter metabolites and the cellular energy/mitochondrial metabolites."

Better late than never.. sorry in taking a while in connecting back with you all:

Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.... Happy.....

Thank you all so very very much. A friend told me "Ask and you shall receive". Another friend told me "The Universe gives back what you put into it". A third friend said "What goes around, comes around". I have said these words, I have used these expressions, but never truly believed, as in "soul believed"...

I stand corrected...

I am humbled, I am elated, I will rest easier knowing that I do have a community who's 'got my back'.

The check came in yesterday, and I immediately ordered the test kits. I'll keep you all posted on what these tests (as well as the other ones) will tell me about where the boys are at.

Love,

Petra
