Make a Microloan for 6-yr old Brock's Health!

This loan has been fully repaid!

First posted: July 30, 2008

Name: Brock

Age: 6 years old

Diagnosis: Autism

Loan Sought: $2,200 (amount has been reduced since original post; HBOT provider is giving them a deal!) [Amount has been reduced again (on 9/5/08) because local Elks Club gave a grant of $1,500!!!

Loan Needed For: 2-month rental of an HBOT chamber for daily use in the home

Repayment Terms: One lump sum in March 2009

Other Notes: "Brock is amazing," says his mom, Heather, "but we have stalled and need to get back into the Hyperbaric chamber to keep his bacteria load in check. He is really regressing lately, and we are so sad to see him suffer. He spoke his first words when we used a hyperbaric chamber in Florida in 2006 with [DAN!] Dr. Jeff Bradstreet. We need an angel right about now."

It costs $15,000 to buy a soft-sided HBOT for use in the home. Brock's family has a firm financial plan in place to be able to purchase the chamber in early 2009. However, "we don't want to lose precious time," Heather says. So she has found a provider an hour and a half away, Greg Harris (www.bodyspecific.com), who will rent the HBOT chamber to them for use in their home for 2 months. Renting this way will enable them to dive every day without needing to drive the 3-hour round trip to Greg's place (with another child in tow). They will average approximately 50 dives/month then take a break (as is recommended when doing daily dives). Greg will allow them to apply the rental costs toward their purchase, so the money will not be "gone" after the rental period ends. The family also plans to offer their HBOT to well-known friends with ASD children, so there will be more than one child benefitting from this loan.

Note: Heather has requested that the loan paid directly to the HBOT provider so that lenders will feel more at ease.

UPDATES - UPDATES - UPDATES

September 12, 2008: Promissory note sent to Brock's parents for signature.

September 15, 2008: Signed promissory note received.

September 15, 2008: Loan of $1,074 disbursed via PayPal.

November 24, 2008: Update from Brock's mom, Heather: "Hey there Tori!! Funny you should email me today. We have having a real low point with Brock right now. A lot of bacteria and yeast again, which are normally controlled & helped by the [HBOT] chamber, but he's also had a really bad cold, so we can't get in like we want to as the pressure is unbearable. I tried with my cold thinking I could tough it out and WOWZA--that hurts like....some really bad word I guess!! LOL! The bacteria needs antibiotics, which increases/causes yeast, which causes crazy giggle and laugh mania (not even remotely in a cute way either!) at 3:00 in the morning till say about 6:00!! Really a whole lot of fun!! We then get to add Diflucan which helps kill the yeast, but the die off of the yeast produces the foulest behavior and poops! So it is just....indescribable at the moment. I try to feel lucky that this isn't our normal life, as it is just the norm for many. My hat goes off to those families, it's heartbreaking! So-life is sucking right now for him, and truthfully for us as well. . . . The Diflucan usually kills the yeast within a day or two, but die-off lasts a bit longer. We definitely will be keeping it real with family this year as we host Turkey day--how ironic. Welcome to our world family! LOL! It's actually a bit humorous as I just finished reading Jenny McCarthy's "Louder than Words" and her description of Evan is spot on for Brock the past few days!! Well--at least I think it's humorous, I am a bit warped liked that! My best (which is not much right now!) LOL -- Heather." Heather also wanted to note that, instead of renting an HBOT as was stated in the original loan request, they were able to purchase a chamber from another family at their DAN! practice. The money from Lend4Health, a donation from their local Elks program, and additional donations from friends and family made it possible. They also have a local family who will be using their chamber, avoiding a long drive and $$$ as Brock's family is not charging them to use their. "It really ended up a win win situation for us to be able to do this and pass on our good fortune," said Heather.

March 27, 2009: Lump-sum repayment of $1,074 received on-time. This loan has been fully repaid. This family is considered to be in good standing on Lend4Health and, therefore, is eligible to request another loan on Lend4Health if they so choose.

I have to say that I usually only give to Christian organizations, but what Tori is doing here is just so awesome and I just can't think of anything more Christian than helping those in need. I will be praying for each family here that God will recover each and every one of your children. God bless all of you.
